: Telescopic stuck loose

I found a new steering wheel at the yard today to finally replace the grant wheel that was on my coupe. During the process of the swap I snapped a bolt off in the center shaft of the steering column. Without it being tight, it leaves the wheel free to telescope in and out. I tried to drill out the bolt, and just ended up tearing up a bunch of bits. Does anybody have a trick to keep the wheel stable without having the adjuster on? I really don't feel like looking for a new column, there's about four at the yard I was at today, but the chance that they have keys is slim to none.

Don't worry about the keys. Grab the column, and just swap your ignition cylinder over.

Well, I've never done one, but my dad says it's not that hard. I may need to do the one in the wagon, so perhaps I should consult the FSM...

Changing a column is about the same work as changing a set of wheels. Very easy.
