: Remove vinyl top

Hi again,
I was wondering how hard it is to pull the vinyl top off my 1987 Brougham?
It needs to be changed so I would pull it myself and fix rust if any then bring it to a place to install a new one.
Or can I glue it myself back?

I say if you remove it and fix the rust, leave it off. They look great without the roofs.

^ Yeah! I've always wanted to remove my vinyl top and just paint the roof but I have to do all my work at my girlfriend's dad's house because he has the tools and stuff...and I feel bad because he always insists on helping and he's been doing a lot of helping with my 69.

I would have to see some pictures. Right now I am thinking it might look naked. Besides, I'd like to keep it original.

If you do this, can you take some pics. I'd love to save some money and remove it first.

If you remove the top, you will have to get a new one professionally installed. If you decide to leave it off, then you need to change the rear window to the type they used in the '80-'84 de Ville's. The formal rear window, used on the Brougham is mounted into a bracket, that is welded or riveted into the window opening used on the de Ville line.

Oh if I do it it won't be this summer.
I have been quoted 625, 995 and 1500 locally (Montreal)
I might have it done at 995. Apparently it should be a good place and I would hate to fudge it up.
But like I said, I was just asking to see if people chime in saying how difficult it is!:)

Ignoring the hot chick for a second (but don't worry, returning to her later :p) I think that car looks good without the top. It's very clean looking. Not a fan of the lowering, but the top is sharp.

I also think the hot chick would look good without the top... :thepan:

But notice that all the topless cars are de Villes. I really want to see what a (Fleetwood) Brougham looks like topless, with the formal window still in.

It would probably look something like this:

I am guessing it would cost much more to have the car look good without the top than to just change the top. Unless of course there is rust under it and it would have to be repainted anyways.

Nice cars and girls by the way

i took the vynal off myt 87 fleet....its real easy to do...take off the chrome triming pieces that go around the windows and the back lower end of the back window....then just take a razor blade and start cutting...then u could grab the vynil and rip it off with ur bare hands...and just repeat the process till ur done

Are the chrome pieces held by clips? Did you leave it off or put a new one on?

I love how this one looks. Although did anyone else notice the directional d'Elegance opera light fail?

yea their held on by clips ///as long as u dont brake them u could reuse them.....just take the clips and chrome trimming to whoever is doing ur vynal top and they should put it back together for u..ask them if they could buff them up for u for an extra fee...
