: oil in head bolt hole

I just removed one of the heads from my Northstar. The bottom row closest to the tranny head bolt was covered with oil. The others were dry. I also noticed that part of the engine appeared to have an oil leak. Can a leaking head gasket cause an oil leak? Has anyone else had this type of oil leak? How does oil get onto the head bolt? I'm hoping I don't have a cracked block.

If the cam cover had a leak in the rear rail area it's entirely possible that some went down the rear head surface and seeped into the gasket - also, if the head lifted due to failed bolt threads, then it's also possible that a cam/lifter oil pressure feed hole seeped oil: oil comes up through the block to the head in gasket-sealed drilled passages.
