Any of you SoCal members want to get together sometime?
We've probably got enough local members to hook up sometime at a cruise or show, coffee? Donuts? I just added the donuts in there for any of our local law enforcement that might be lurking?

Buddy's not Mike Thermos, is it?
Mike Thermos, ex owner of Nitrous Oxide Systems (NOS) has a cyber grey ZR1 and goes to Donut Derelicts every so often.
If we can get one going, you are welcome to join, & the ZR1 too. I've been trying to get these guys out from under their rocks for a while now. I hit Donut Derelicts on the corner of Magnolia & Adams in Huntington Beach 1 or 2 times a month in either my '87 turbo Buick on my '09 CTS-V. Let me know if you are interested.

Hey Gary,

Sounds like a great idea. If I'm ever in town AND can drag my @$$ out of bed early enough, I'd still like to get together at Cars and Coffee in Irvine someday.

Hmm, thinking about Cars and Coffee:
The precursor to the original Cars and Coffee (which itself spun off of Donut Derelicts) used to be held at the Crystal Cove Promenade (the "Crystal Cove Car Show", just south of Newport Beach/Corona del Mar). Might be worth looking into for just a small gathering of Vs (at a more reasonable hour :)). Haven't been by in awhile, but there at least used to be a Pacific Whey Cafe and a Starbucks there. If it's more towards brunch/lunch time, there's Z-Pizza, Javier's etc.

Another interesting thing to do might be the Peterson Automotive Museum. I have never been to the "new" (1994) location :o --but it looks like they do group tours for parties of 10 or more. On June 26th they're having a Fiberglass Day from 10 to 3: http://www.petersen.org/default.cfm?DocID=902&CalendarID=793

Just some random thoughts...

I would do a "Cars & Coffee" in Irvine if that's the one that I am thinking of. Is that the one that's at the Ford Engineering building?
The one that's left over from the old Crystal Cove show?
The property owner of the Crystal Cove had that show shut down by law enforcement about 2 years ago or so. I would be up for the one that you mentioned a while back at the Ford building.
Problem is, I think that you stay out of town intentionally so you don't have to go to these things. I think that you just don't want anybody too close to your car. Can't blame you.

Yep, that would be the one Gary. How about this: I'll be back in town on the 18th. If D3 has my car ready, how about the 19th, 6:45-ish? If my car isn't ready, then the 26th...

Luna:
Any time that you want to meet up, Luna, let me know. I like Donut Derelicts as it is early enough that it gets over with at about 8:00-8:30 AM or so, and it leaves the balance of the day. However, I'm up for the Irvine show some Saturday morning also. Whatever works. I would just like to check out some of the other CTS-V's in the area. Let me know anytime that you want to get together.

Donut Derelict's starts about 6:00 AM or so but being in a strip mall parking lot that holds about 100 cars, peeps arrive as early as 5:00 AM or so. On a good Saturday, the lot is generally full by about 6:30-7:00 AM or so. Every Saturday morning other than rain. More of a non-scheduled car show without formal judging than anything else. Lots of American iron there, early and late. A few motorcycles too.

OK, Mas, the 19th or the 26 it is. Keep me posted. Is your car in there now?

Whenever you've get your car out, Mas, let me know, we'll hit Irvine. I will probably bring a buddy of mine with a 10 sec GN. Lays, I believe, 508 at the rear wheels, best run so far is 10.87 through the 1/4 in Fontana.

This is a link to the last turbo Buick, (but open to all cars), pizza cruise last month. We had about 20 turbo Buicks & a few vettes show up. Most cruised from Pt. Fermin in Wilmington, I believe, to the pizza shop. Everybody that wanted to brought their families, wives, kids, girlfriends, mistresses, whatever. It would be great to get some of the Cad CTS-V's there also. The guy that owns the pizza shop does this about every 5 months or so. Great family fun. Lots of kool cars. I think that I posted that up, but no Cads showed up. There's some great pics in there on about page 4 or 5 or so.

Probably out of a stage II race motor. Jeff Rand builds motors, and that is out of his collection of "what detonation problem are you referring to?".
There's probably a few low 10 sec cars in the group.

I like that idea (Cars & Coffee in Carlsbad)...

Gary Wells
06-01-10, 12:58 PM
If I have a choice, I would prefer Irvine over Carlsbad due to the length of travel, but I will abide by whatever the majority opts for. I would just be happy to have an opportunity to check out everybodys CTS-V's. There are a few people up in this area that may not be able to travel to Carlsbad due to time constraints and family obligations. We could also try Irvine the 19th or the 26th as necessary to accomodate Mas and then maybe if everybodys interested do Carlsbad the next month. Wherever we go, I think that it would be a great time and an excellent opportunity to put forum user names to names & faces in real life. Checking out the cars and seeing that many CTS-V's together would be a real + though.

For other interesting possibilities you guys might want to check out SoCalCarulture for future locations for cruise spots & get-togethers.
Definitely thanks for the interest, too. I am sure that we will enjoy checking out everybody elses car.

Luna,

I totally understand that Carlsbad is too far. I wouldn't go all the way to Ventura. Although my sister lives there. Naturally I mentioned Carlsbad because the location is only 4 miles from my house.

Irvine may work for me on the 19th, but not the 26th.

Depending on the date I would love to meet with other V owners

Also, there is a car show this Sunday, 06-06-2010, beginning at about 9:00 AM or so at Bates Nut Farm which, I believe is in maybe Valley Center. It is a yearly show primarily consisting of turbo Buicks but open to all american iron, new and old. Admission is free. Entering a car is $25.00 I believe. Sponsored by the BGNRA, or what's left of it. I will be there with either my '87 turbo Buick or my '09 CTS-V, not sure which one just yet. If any of you guys come, come look me up and introduce yourself. This is a great show with generally about 60 or so cars. If you are into Turbo Buicks, there will be about 25 or so there.

I am planning on going regardless of who else goes. Sometimes that is the best way to start. Come on out.
On another note, you're not the Bob that I met at the Fontana track this last weekend are you?
There was a "Bob" out there with a 650 RWHP '09 or '10 black CTS-V. Ran 11.8 before the heat got to it. Ex GN guy.

Ross Racing:
Stop on by, is will be a great show and free to spectators, you could even enter the CTS-V if you want for $ 25.00, otherwise, you can park it in the parking lot right next to the show cars so it would get checked out anyway. There's always some *nice cars* there. Hope to see you on the 19th at Cars & Coffee in Irvine.

Great, if my schedule work, I'll be there.

No, that wasn't me - I believe James from D3 had a customer out there running the drag strip. I was at Fontana, but inside the Speedway doing the "ROVAL" with the Redline Time Attack. There was a second '09 V2 running with me.

Yes, I spoke with James at the track and he or
Matt told me that they had another customer on the oval running when I was talking to them. The customer on the 1/4 mile track was named Bob also. I gave him the name of this forum and tried to get him to go on the forum, but looks like I was not successful.
