Hi... just joined this forum the other day... Need to trade out of wife's 1988 Mercedes 560 SEL. MB has 195,000 miles great engine, good shape overall but needs rotors & calipers: body good but has ugly 50 cent sized rust market on front fender. Blue Book private party value is about $3200 trade in value $2000. Car doesn't owe me a dime.

Looked at Infiniti FX35 first. Liked it but interior leaves me cold and ride was a little rough. Came close on the Porsche Cayenne but my 11 year old missed the DVD and hated that rear windows only go down halfway. Finally we all decided we liked the SRX. Wanted it White Diamond, neutral interior, fully loaded including XM. They could not find a 2004 equipped that way within 300 miles, (I'm in Virginia), but did find several 2005 models in different colors. No white, so it looks like we'll get a blue one with neutral, every option including 3rd sesat, XM, Nav and DVD.

MSRP is $54595. They'll quoting an invoice of $50463.50 plus 2% for a sales price of $51472.77. They'll give me $2300 on the MB, the $1500 "Conquest Cash" and $750 if I use GMAC for a net of $46922.72. If I put about $3000 cash in, they'll set up a 3 year, 12k miles a year lease at about $595 a month. The residual is high at about $30,000, which must be supported, because I can't see the car being worth that much in 3 years.

You folks know more about this car and these deals than I do... What do you think of that deal? Also, do you think the Smart Buy program (at about 5.9%) would be better.

One last thing. My wife kind of like the trick aftermarket grill we saw on one at a different dealer. Any idea where you find those?

Thanks so much for any assistance or advice you might have.

My 1st impression is that $54,595 is low. Is this the V6 or V8? Does it include Ultraview, AWD, and/or Mag ride? If not, could be about right. I thought you wanted it loaded?

I, personally, would NEVER lease....by FAR the most expensive way to get a car!

As for the "deal" $1000 over cost is decent (I got $500 over). The other's are a "given"!

If you want the white---offer them $500 over...same spiffs, order it (about 6-8 weeks) and finance it at the lowest you can find. :welcome:

Thanks for your help. This is the quote for a V6 with every option except the mud flaps, towing stuff and Ultra View Plus (although it does have the regular Ultra View).

$54595 is the exact list price of my 2005 SRX (not white) if my memory serves me. This is for luxury performance package which does include all those things but this is for V6. I paid a couple hundred over cost (after about $900 was added for advertising to the invoice price I saw online through Edmunds), then took off another $1500 for Conquest rebate....and I bought the car -- would never lease as I don't want to worry about miles and residuals. Sounds like you're getting a good price when you factor in the trade-in they offered you is in line.

Actually, right now, a lease is the most AFFORDABLE way to get the 2004 SRX. I believe $1750 of the $6250 available rebates are only offered if you get the 48 month lease, not on a purchase or a shorter lease. In addition, the residuals are high (49% at 4 years at 12k) and the interest rate is low.

halley,

Cadillac is subordinating the leases right now so they lease deals are very good.

The only thing I would suggest is to see if you can get it for invoice or a couple hundred over.

SRX's are selling fairly well but not blowing out the doors so he will probably want to deal.

But overall your deal is pretty good.

When I leased my SRX in March the dealer was advertising 459 mo for a base V6. I rolled my upside down Impala into it and the sales tax and am paying a little over $500. No money down of course.

When I started to look two weeks ago, midwest regional leases on '05s were 55% residual on 15K 36 month and 58% on 12K 36 month. MF was .00206 or 4.95%. We did our '04 last Saturday for the SAME RATE! Awesome lease. Definitely padded. ;)

If you only keep a car for 3 years or less and drive less than 15 thousand miles a year, LEASE! There is no way you'd get 55% of MSRP on your trade the way used car prices are falling. You could sell it yourself of course (yeah right). You'll be competing against SRX's coming off leases that are "certified" with extended warranties.
