View Full Version : Some headlight modification questions... drewb612 08-27-04, 12:16 AM Well im going to start making a few changes to the headlights in my 97 Deville, i was wondering if anybody had a diagram of the headlight # required for all the different lights in the entire assembly, high/low beam as well as blinkers and the lights below the main lights.
Also does anybody have any experience with the cheap, or even piaa "Xenon" lights on ebay, ive heard of silverstars and my both my friends have them but i dont love them, any suggestions?
Lastly, has anybody even put angel eyes on a deville, is there any pics, info, and instructions on how to do this? caddyshack24 08-29-04, 03:47 PM goto walmart and look it up on the machine.. it has all the numbers. or call your dealership. hell, even a website that sells lights have a "what fits" you can get info from.
ive been look at headlights recently too, whats wrong with the silverstars? supposed to be near HID as you can get. Sylvania has a cool blue headlight, not as powerful as the Silverstars but better than stock. (not to much) .. all about the looks.
HID's are available for low beam and Aux. lights, like fog lights. id go with real HID's for my low and fog, which is what ill do. maybe silverstars for highbeams.
saw some guy who modded his caddy for angel eyes, had electrical problems afterwards, guess he didnt do it right? or? not sure if it was a deville.
whats wrong with silverstars?? drewb612 08-29-04, 05:38 PM ive seen em, idunno i just didnt think they were that close to hid, i was wondering, i dont think hte 97 deville has fog lights, idunno lol i ll hve to check caddyshack24 08-29-04, 06:24 PM anybody reading who does want Silverstars.. just saw a coupon from Sylvania for $5 bucks back or free blockbuster rental. its on their website

dont know man, im no expert on this.. i personally wouldnt by those. i read somewhere that the cheaper ones are just painted bulbs. but i dont know the how the quality ones work. so. ya know.
its all up to you
you can see on that website, cool blue is less lumans. which is light. and thats defined by how bright the bulb burns. those HID's are made up of chemicals.. takes like 10 seconds for them to warm up and get going. but when they do, they run with less wattage (18% less i think it was) and give off tons more light, closer to daylight lumans.
those are for the bulbs anyways, you need an ignitor and ballest plus wiring and amp to get them working. drewb612 08-30-04, 12:59 AM cool blue doesnt out off as much light, more for the "look" of the headlights. depends on what your going for, style or seeing ability. ive seen some that have different colored tips and give off a rainbow effect. depending on how you view them.

when you say "those" which ones are you talking abou caddyshack24 08-30-04, 02:46 AM those two ebay things you posted. just the bulbs, a think the spray painted ones. silverstar is the best you can get without going to HID far as i know. definatly from Sylvania it is. which is a name i could trust drewb612 08-30-04, 10:33 AM well im going more for the look then anything else, i have excellent night vision, so its not a big deal. Cool blue would be better then silverstar? caddyshack24 09-03-04, 02:32 AM dont know man, i dont have your eyes. if you can manage with stock headlights.. coolblue is alright, its a step up.. silverstar is brighter than both though. by far over stock.
for anybody else wondering about this, maybe you could take a picture.. when you have one stock and one cool blue installed.. backed up and facing a wall. say maybe 25 feet. thats what im gonna do when i get around to scoring some silverstars PhillyCaddy 09-03-04, 02:23 PM I installed silverstar's in my sls about 6 months ago and I can say they are truly great. I still must install the high beams yet but that will be soon now that day light is slipping away into the the fall and winter seasons.
I have seen the cool blues and the silverstars side by side and will always go with silverstar.
that is just my 2cents. drewb612 09-03-04, 03:20 PM I installed silverstar's in my sls about 6 months ago and I can say they are truly great. I still must install the high beams yet but that will be soon now that day light is slipping away into the the fall and winter seasons.

I'm guessing you just unplug the old lights and plug in the new ones . Is that all thats needed no other parts or wiring right ? Where did you pick up the Silverstars and how much can I expect to pay ? TIA

I picked them up at walmart for the cool amount of 40 bucks. and no you dont need to change any of the wires or anything like that. the hardest part I had was trying to get the old ones out. they can be fun.
1 and as for silverstar over cool blue. two reasons. one I like to be able to see when I am driving at midnight and the silverstar's are great on the eyes and better light.
2 here in pa if a state trooper wants to be a d!ck or a inspection station wants to be pissy. you can fail for the blues. they are not inspection passable here in pa. I should know. a state trooper came to the shop I work in with the notice one day a few years ago.
its stupid but thats the way it is. rollman 09-03-04, 07:22 PM Great ! I'll cruise on over to Wally World and pick some up . I hate driving at night cause the factory lights suck. I'm located in basiclly the same area you are so I don't need pissy Troopers botherin me :histeric: PhillyCaddy 09-03-04, 07:43 PM Great ! I'll cruise on over to Wally World and pick some up .
