Well, just got back from picking up my new toy. It has the 307 in it but regardless of what anyone feels about this particular car, I LOVE IT!! Now I have a real car. Cant even tell its a '89 unless you know your cadillacs that is. I am not one bit embarrased to drive this car around, its better looking than most newer ones if you ask me. Price paid was 4,400 a little on the high side but for the condition, its worth it to me. Miledge is 73k. Sure does turn the heads!

Not my favorite colors (I have a white car...and SUCKS to keep clean!!!)

But...it looks really nice inside and out...someone must have cared for it! Have fun!

First of all, congratulations 89d'Elegance. That is a great car. I hate you :D

I have a question for you and any other person who owns Cadillac with that body style. There is a panel on the left side of a driver's seat. From previous experence I know that people like to sit on the side of the seat, rather then the middle and in those Cadillac that panel soon pops off as the pressure, especially on the front screw, is too high and it just flies off. How do take care of that panel?

I hope you know what I am talking about.

Really dont know, my panel is fine. Not loose at all but it seems to make sense what you are saying. :banghead:

Nice car dude, I have the same car only in cherry red with burgundy interior and in the exacy same condition as yours. Be good to her and she'll be good to you. White cars get dirty real bad, as my '99 Malibu will show, wash often.

Lev- Are you talking about the armrest on the door? Or that decorative thing on the outside of the seat with the Caddy emblem on it? Can you get a picture of what you mean?

WOW!!! That is a fine specimen. Very clean. Those glass roofs are the icing on the cake. I hope you're not gonna run that beauty in the stinking north east winter.

That decorative thing on the outsied of the seat, not the half you lean your back against, but the half you sit on. If you drive the car like 89 D'Elegance does, you should know.

I have a white car. When I first got it I thought it would be real bad for keeping clean but it's pretty good actually. It usually looks cleaner then it really is. We have a dark green car that's worse.

lev I've never heard of that problem.

Real sweet man, I've got an 87 that was just as clean as yours but since I've had it in my possession it hasn't been in the garage so its needing a top now. Anyway my 87 continues to be the most reliable transportation in my household. When all my "newer" cars are in the shop, the Fleetwood comes to the rescue. Good luck with it and keep it nice. :D

Good looking car. Real Clean.

Can somebody tell me what Cadillac was smoking when they incorporated those plastic filler panels into the rear of the car?? The older cars with the same type vertical fins (like my '68) don't have 'em. The plastic bits are always fading and cracking. I've seen beautiful cars that look almost perfect except that the plastic is nearly missing altogether! The tail light just sits there like an almost-severed limb, hanging by a nerve.

Were they just cutting corners, alienating quality minded buyers, and giving reason to need a modern renaissance in order to capture market share?

Damn quarter panel extenders. After I bought my '82 Coupe I got my head stuck on trying to find a metal replacement piece for the plastic and get 'em welded up. But I had ZERO luck. I want to paint my car but I feel like an ******* ordering the OEM plastic pieces knowing they will fade and look cheap in 5 years.

Very nice looking ride. I absolutely LOVE the late 80's D'Elegance and Broughmans. Totally pimp. Especially in white or black. Very nice acquisition.

Man, That car is nice! Good luck with it... I already miss my 85 and I just got rid of it. It was white with red interior also but your interior blows mine away!!! Oh yeah and the moonroof is an awsome option!!!

Cool. I dig that. It is something how little the car's interior and exterior changed from 89 to 91. I see slight differences, but nothing huge. Those leather pillow seats are great, aren't they. Mine does not have the run roof. You beat me there, but then I live in GA and I see enought sun as it is. :D

89 D'Elegance, brougham, DopeStar 156, this is right here what I was talking about earlier in this thread? Look at the pic I put in the attachment, look then on the panel on the botton of the seat, the plastic one, the one that is bent because most people sit on the side of the seat and not the center.

Cadillacs of that era were notorious for putting that panel in such a way that extra pressure was applied at the wrong spots when a person was sitting and the panel would either deform or that itsy bitsy bol in the right would just snap off, thus causing the whole panel to come off.

Dear God I hope you understand exactly what I am talking about. I don't have a photoshop to draw a circle around it or anything.

Anyway, how do you fix that problem, who can tell me? :hmm:

I think the plastic fillers were meant to take the impact of the rear bumpers - in the event that ya hit something.

I agree that they always fade and mismatch the rest of the body color.

Very nice car! I wish mine was in that kind of shape. It sat for a long time before the older man decided to sell it. But it's in pretty good shape. Love the sun roof!

The quarter panels extenders were designed for impact. Cheaper to replace that than the quarter panel. I'm not going back with the rubber O.E.M. we'd have the same problem down the road. Unless your going to garage store your Caddy. Check online, they have ABS replacements that are supposed to last forever and are a hell of a lot cheaper. GM wants $300+ for the rubber and you can get a set of ABS for around $125. I think the link I'm going to order from is www.bumperfillers.com I just haven't gotten around to it.

Holy mackrel! This one is in a PRISTINE condition. You better take good care of her, when you mentioned that it'll be garaged (sigh of releif).
Anyways,   it's a great find!

Congratulations, it's a gorgeous car. Caddylow is right, white is a hell of a lot easier to keep clean than black, and by the way-the price seems more than fair.

lev, i have the same problem with those decorative pieces on my 88 brougham. the previous owner was a fairly heavy guy (heavy enough to break one of the feet that the drivers side seat sits on) but that decorative piece is falling off. the only thing i can think of to fix it is to either get another one from a junkyard or somehow put a larger screw in there, or a screw with a washer. it may not look good, but it will keep it from falling off. just my two cents.

O.O

Damn. That's the same combo as my car. Take care of the seats man, take care of them. Mine are starting to fall apart, and it makes one want to cry at times(not bad enough to make one want to cry all the time... yet)
