Have a couple questions for you, check them out below;

1. Does your pedal engage really close to the floor?
2. Does it seem like since you installed your spec, its been harder to get into gears?
3. Do you have lock-out on higher RPMs?

Let me know, I think I might have a solution for ya ;)

The suspense is killing me. WTF is it?

The only problem I had with my spec is the lockout. Pedal was perfect. Shifts were smooth as butter. Even first and reverse from a stand still most of the time. So what's your solution? Not the it matters now lol I have a Exedy twin! : )

yes

And I bought ur twin and it's being installed right now

I hope that is the solution and I hope the twin u have isn't doing the same thing!!!

yeah i think that maybe the solution he is thinking of.... funny if thats it.

not going to lie... im getting a bit restless here.

Well with the info provided by liqidvenom earlier in an email. It looks like spec did the wrong machining on their spacers, thus not providing enough travel to release the pressure plate when the force is greatest (high RPM) if the pressure plate is not releasing, this means you cannot get into the next gear until the RPM's come down.

The solution? - Buy a twin disk from us ;) don't play around with singles, those are for girls :-P Haha.

Just kidding, basically before I come up with the fix, I need someone that took a spec out of their car and have it laying around to give me some measurements from the clutch. Then I will make the correct spacer/slave setup to eliminate the lock-out issue.

liqidvenom
05-14-10, 04:02 PM
would that also be an issue in my case where i have a ls7 slave as opposed to the cts v slave and the spec spacer?

Does someone have the measurements for the ls7 slave and the cts-v slave so adam can compare them? Maybe you could make up a spacer i could use to run since i would like to keep the ls7 slave since it is new.

( while you are at it take a look at what it would require for me to run the twin disk with my ls7 slave).

Already looking into that.

I sent my spec out to them last thursday. Well see what jeremy does for me.
I may decide to take it to the next level and file a dispute with my credit card company since im out 800$ plus a shit load of time.

The spec lets off high , wont go into gears at high RPM's.

Im running the CTS-V slave with the spec spacer that came with the kit.

I have been chasing around changing hydrolics for months now. Finaly I got pissed off and got the twin.

I realy hope spec goes out of buisness soon, ive never seen a company that wont stand behind their product, and their customer service sucks so far aswell.

ive been talking to jeremy all week and he has been keeping me up to date with what they are thinking of doing. I am not sure how you and him were dealing with each other.

let me update everyone on how spec treated me. The basicly shurgged thier shoulders and said I have a hydraulic issue for the past 6 months.. :bomb:

And the spacer theory doesnt make sence to me, because I have the 1/2 that spec sent to me with thier kit . You have the LS7 slave which is equivalent to a .970 spacer and you STILL have issues .

I think its because of the heavy disk and a pressure plate design the V hydraulics can't handle. :nono:

fwiw the spacer spec sent me was larger then 1/2, i forgot the exact measurements i can look for them. I know what the problem is with the kits and we have been thinking about it at work. im going to give them a chance to do some work on this. they told me they are working on the v they have in the shop and will look at your kit so we shall see whats what.

if at the end of the day they tell us to go f our selves then yeah trashing them is needed. but until then ill hold off.

twin disk ftw. im considering this for my next mod i just want some more feedback from different V owners first :)

I emailed the spec rep before to make sure I had the right spacer and it is a 1/2 " They pretty much told me to go f-off other then that and said I need a new trans or I have a hydraulic issue..

What do you guys think the problem is ?

I'm just waiting for a stack height measurement of the spec clutch/flywheel before I say anything, they might have a thicker flywheel than most others. Its something I'm looking into now.

liqidvenom
05-15-10, 05:17 PM
do you have someone who is getting your the measurement? if not i could get you the email of the guy who i am talking to at spec.

Thats exactly why I didn't send mine to them. All they are going to say is it's a hydro problem, go f yourself. And the only reason for that is the fact that gm does have crappy hydros that they can blame it on. They are covering their shitty design problems with gm's shitty design problems. It's pissing me off so I said f SPEC. I will never recomend any SPEC product to anybody.

Nothing positive about Spec as far as I'm concerned. I had one installed on my 'stang, had the same issues everyone is talking about here, in fact, a Muscle Mustang & Fast Fords magazine was testing a 'stang with a Spec clutch but said they were unable to get the car into gear at high RPM and were not able to accurate 1/4 results for said car. When I contacted Spec, they said with 100% certainty that nothing could be wrong with their clutch. They blamed it on installer error. When I told them I was the installer they said, "Well then. YOU installed it wrong." BS. I went with Centerforce after that and never had a single issue. BTW - the issue I had with Spec is the single issue I have ever had with any clutch I have installed. Never again.

I finaly got some miles on the twin after driving all weekend, and the car hits the gears smooth as butter at high RPMS now. And im running the same hydraulics. So I know for a fact its not a hydraulic problem.

If spec doesnt work something out with me , I have already contacted my credit card company and they are willing to stand behind me.

keep us updated on what you find adam.

liqidvenom
05-16-10, 06:01 PM
Adam i'll be sending you an email. a fix for this issue with their clutch would be nice, but its time to go forward.

maxspeed96ct

Got my email back from spec, btw my car shifts fine at any RPMS with the fidanza and I couldnt shift for shit for the spec.
And they are still telling me nothing is wrong with thier kit..

Here was they sent me:

"David, I checked the parts, as did our production manager and one of the company owners. Though I wish that I could tell you that I had found some issue the clutch was as it should be in all regards: actuation, stack height, effort for actuation, clamp-load, disc thickness, and overall function. My only thought is that perhaps the disc weight is responsible for the slower response at higher RPM. For instance, if the synchro's were worn the heavier weight could affect the time it takes to see complete meshing. I honestly hoped that I would find something with the parts but did not and cannot create a problem that isn't there. That being said if you want to move to a lighter disc I can work with you to do this. Let me know how you wish to proceed. Thanks "

So now hes telling me my synchro's are bad, when for the first 6 months it was my hydraulics. :rant2:

SPEC = has to be one of the worst aftermarket parts companies i've ever delt with.

did they test fit it into the v they have on sight? because thats what i was lead to believe that they were going to do. the unit could be ok, but if it isnt setup to work in a V then thats what only matters. I've been talking with someone who has the spec in their car from before they changed the size of the kit and they have no issues. so the change to what i assume is a larger pressure plate/ clutch is what is leading to this issue.

now if they try it in their own v and get it to work then they need to let me and you drive it so we can tear it apart and find out how on earth that car is different from ours.

Liquid my only advice to you , is get the spec out asap. And file a claim with your credit card company before its to late.

Or try the lighter spec disk if you can, the stage 2 and stage one come with a lighter disk the rep told me.

G/luck man.

if i pull the trans its to have a certain fix for it... not to test fit things on their behalf. which is why i asked him to test kit your kit into the v they have on sight.

That would be bad, seeing as he bought it from me. Spec would have to accept the clutch back and I can refund him 100%

which is the rock and a hard place argument. if spec takes it back then thats great and makes my life easier so i can buy the twin disk like i should have in the first place. if they wont listen to me as a customer, then i guess Adam you would have to get them to listen to you as a vendor. either way i just want to get my car back on the road. i spend to much money on it every month so it can sit.

BTW adam i called and left you an voice mail, i have my stock slave on my desk and wasnt sure what measurements you needed after out last discussion by email.

maxspeed96ct

Spec wont refund you the money.

Like I said before its not a spacer issue.

If you want to try to spend as little money as possible and try to fix it , id say contact spec/adam and try thier lighter stage 1 or even stage 2 disk and go from there.

I delt with this since october of 09.

I was so madd about this when it first happend I think I was losing sleep (now thats modd hell) :cookoo:

well im not going to spend more money on their stuff to fix a kit they sold which doesnt work. just seems like im paying them to do R&D which is nuts.

b/w all the people having issues with this kit im sure it wouldn't be to difficult to get my money back. this is the only draw back to buying from a vendor, it the supplier sells junk it puts them in b/w

spec is replacing my 3+ disk with thier stage one disk at no extra cost (altough I did have to pay to ship the kit out to them)
They claim the disk is the same weight as stock and Wont give any issues. :bigroll:

If you dont want to spend anymore money give it a shot, but it will require removing the trans again who knows if it will work.
