Just had wonderful detail done last week at Caddy dealer after getting in their butt for previous bad detail. Took Mr. Lucky (2000 Black Escalade) today for a carwash. The detail shop came highly recommended by a co-worker. The carwash place is in a different location. I thought my truck looked great when they finished it. Unfortunately where they wash your car is located in an underground parking structure. So when I got out in the sunlight I notice horrid swirl scratches all over my truck. So I took it to their detail shop and showed it to them. They tried to tell me some B.S. that the swirls start from the factory and when your car is repeatedly washed they appear. I told them I thought that was B.S. and I felt it came from the wash guy using dirty rags because I had my car detailed last week and I have never seen swirls on my truck before their carwash. So they told me to bring it Saturday and they would do something called purpleling and reglazing. Is anyone familiar with this process ??? I did look at some of there detail work in process and they look like they are capable of doing good work. So I trust they will do a good job. I live in Los Angeles,California the shop is named Mr. Polish. If anyone knows of the shop and/or the technique they are going to do on my truck any comments will be greatly appreciated. Sorry post so long. You know us girls (Talk to much :) )
Peace :rant2:

that really sucks. i've never heard of doing that before, so i'm not sure how it will work. i've only ever heard of people wet-sanding and buffing.

I'm sorry to hear that. I am real anal about my escalade as well. I actually buff most of my scratches out with my fingers hahaha yes it works most of the time. I actually see a lot of black cars with paint swirls, so it must be a common thing. As for what they are gonna do to Mr Lucky, I do not know what that is. But good luck and update us.
Never heard of re-glazing, but wet sanding and buffing will remove most of the imperfections and leave you with a mirror finish on your ride. I wouldn't trust anyone to do that for me though.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I can laugh about my bad car wash experience now: I sent my 99 GMC Sierra through an automatic car wash and the attendant left my window all the way down. I got a detail and shampoo for free that day. It took the radio a couple of days to dry out and work properly again!! The leather seats weren't hurt at all. I can laugh about it now, but I was extremely pissed that day.
It's no fun when somebody doesn't take good care of your ride.

Well thanks for all the love :) . I'll let everyone know how things go on Saturday. I spoke with my suspension people who are down the street from the detail shop. They said Mr. Polish details a lot of high end cars and not to worry. I beleive they are going to put wax on the body to fill in swirls and then buff it out. So send a prayer up for us :) Happy Friday !!!
Peace :)

Well, I went from bad to worse :banghead: Supposedly Mr. Polish washed my truck then put Mcguruy's (sorry not sure of the spelling) wax on it. Then they rubbed the swirls out. Well upon me doing an around the car vehicle check I unfortunately noticed that the clearcoat was peeling on the front driver side bumper. I took it to my autobody shop immediately. They said it was not the Detail places fault. (So already got them an apology card and will send with a tip because they did get most of the swirls out) The autobody shop said Caddy dealer had touched up fender and had done a bad prep job so the clear coat would have eventually peeled off. When you look closely you can see the little touch up marks in the paint. So needless to say back at the Caddy dealer on Monday :madtalkin :) Thanks for listening to me :rant2: once again.
Peace :bouncy:

glazing is the same as buffing. instead of using rubbing/buffing compound they use glaze. i don't think either is better, just different methods.

almost all cars have swirls in the paint. dark color cars show them way more than light colors like white and silver. i had a black car before i got my escalade so thats why i got it in white! :D
The problem with glazing is that once you wash your truck all the swirls will reappear, the oil in the glaze will hide them until it rains or you wash your truck. I use 3M Scratch and Swirl Remover for repair of damage areas, once finished I wash with Dawn or use 3M Adhesive/Wax Remover and apply your favorite wax product.
