With the stock Michelin XW4 tires I feel sometimes uncomfortable on snow.
This tire has too less winter performance.

What tires do you use in a real winter (snow on the road and in the mountains)?

Try this. (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/dg/SelectAutoMakeAndYear.jsp)

Search by make and model, then choose snow and so on. You can decide what road conditions you encounter and what price you want to pay, etc... Each tire also has a section where people leave their real world opinions. I found this helpful and would choose my tires again. But I have 18" tires and they don't have a 15" size available.

I bought my FWB in Kansa City, MO, drove it to Olympia, Wa last Nov. I went thru snow storms, packed snow and ice thru the mountain passes with just stock all weather tires. No problems at all, the traction control worked fine. Just drive responsible and maintain a good following distance, the caddy will will get you there.

I have a '94 Fltwd. The first thing I did was order a set (4 each) of real snow tires mounted on stock steel (black) wheels from The Tire Rack . I put cheap, but better than nothing, hub caps on the wheels. I put snow tires all around on all of my cars during the winter months.

I run this setup from the first day of snowfall to about mid-March or April.
I didn't buy the best snow tires available, but they are fine for the few months of snow and ice we may see in Norther Virginia.

I went with the following tire three winters ago, and they still have lots of tread with my limited use. The Tire Rack will ship them through UPS mounted and balanced on steel wheels. They arrive and are ready to put on the car.

I just captured this entry from their site www.thetirerack.com.

Yeah I've driven mine in really bad and scary snowstorms. But I just drove slow and eventually made it home.

If you have a posi rear end and snow tires you should be fine. the weight of the car alone is enough.

A posi rear end will be nice....one day!

I drove up the mountain of Blude Knob, PA in new snow two winters ago, and had no problem with snow tires and the traction control system. It was the first time I had had the Fltwd. in snow and it performed great.

Living in at the top of a steep hill in Vermont (which has two seasons - winter and 4th of July) I have had excellent results with 4 studded snows on my 92 Brougham. Haven't got stuck yet...
