Hey I was wondering what % of oil life you guys change at (per the oil life option on the dash)?

I change mine at 5,000K no matter what the % says with Royal Purple.

I'm on my first change, since buying my car.. I was told during my caddy inspection that it looked like it was just changed and the % was in the high 90's, but I didn't have an exact date or mileage of the change. If anyones got a ball park percentage to change at, let me know.

When I reach around 44% I've gone about 8K miles since the last change. Although the oil life service monitors are pretty accurate and I could go longer, that's been about my limit before I take it in.

Edit - I just looked in my Onstar monthly reports.

99% oil life and 35,292 miles on the odo. The next month 90% oil life and 36,468 miles. So that's 1176 miles on 9% oil life, I'm guessing about 1300 miles per 10% oil life ?

So going on that math it's about 13,000 miles between oil changes:confused:

I was figuring it would end up around 12,000, but yeah, longer than I care to stretch it.

I read an extensive article about how the oil change intervals are calculated (I did a google search). I change when the system tells me to.

It's been proven to be accurate, so there's no real question you can follow the oil life service monitor, and it's in the owner's manual to follow it, so a dealership can't try and get out of a warranty claim because you may go 10-13,000 miles between oil changes as long as the monitor says you're still good.

Now on my 05 CTS-V it would run it down the % somewhere between 5-6000 miles on the odo, but that car also only held 6 quarts vs our almost 9.

If I didn't pre-purchase the quarterly oil change plan with my dealer, I'd just go by the monitor like I did on my old Trailblazer. I do believe that 3months/3K was for older technology and recent advancements in filter, oil and engine technology allows that to be stretched.

With mineral oil the 3mo/3k was valid but with Synthectic oils that is no longer true.
