My ac is not working. A mechanic looked at it and said it needed a new ac clutch, but they do not sell just the clutch. Any reason I can not just replace the clutch? Thanks guys.

Based on my review of the Service Manual I believe the cltuch cannot be replaced other than by replacing the compressor. There is a replaceable cluthc relay. See Attached.

I know that they don't sell a clutch by itself. However on our infiniti the clutch went out and we just bought a compressor off ebay and moved the clutch off it to the new car.

I have had the clutch replaced on other cars too. I had an 1987 Jeep Cherokee that required an ac clutch almost annually. Nonetheless, I cannot find anything in the Service Manual about rebuilding, disassembling, or replacing any component of the compressor. GMPartsDirect's data base shows an MRSP of $507 and ther pre-shipping price is $263. Their shipping charges can be substantial. Good luck.

Its PITA to try your self if you dont have alot of experience. I have 5 years of wrenching for a living and I had the dealer do mine.

Yea it looked difficult to get to it. I will have to put it up on the lift and see if it is any easier from under...

Any luck from anyone trying to find a clutch for the ac compressor? My compressor still works but the clutch doesn't work anymore. If not I'll have to replace the compressor.

Thanks darkman for the good deal. Local dealership wants 450 to the compressor.

I bought the compressor 278.66 and dehydrator 22.99 from gmpartsonline
I asked about the warranty, they told me if anything goes wrong with it,
just take it to a local gm dealership.

wonder what those parts would have cost for a 335i?

Rockauto has a Denso reman A/C compressor for an 08 335i for $619. Denso is labeled as the OE for this part.

They also show an AC Delco A/C compressor for an 05 CTS-V for $306. Literally half the price.
