: 2005 or 2007 V "which one would you own"

I am stuck in a hard spot.

I was about to close up a deal on a 2007 V with 6,000 miles for 29K and found a 2005 with 44,500 for 20K.

9k difference for cars that are pretty much the same except for miles. Both have clean carfax reports, no accidents and are clean.

The 05 is a blue/grey type color, 07 is black. 05 is out of warranty, 07 has another year. I'll be financing the car and the payment difference is about $152. Cash flow is not a major issue, but resale value in 2 - 3 years is on my mind.

What would you do? Spend the x-tra 9K for the 07 with low miles, or save the cash and take the 05 as the cars are so similar?

One of these cars WILL be in my garage this weekend and I'm struggling here and looking for some additional input.

Thanks.

I went 07 for the 100k drive train and upgraded diff/axles. My neighbor went the other route and got an 05. Both cars had the same miles 45k but he paid roughly 5k less. I don't know if he has had any issues yet but ironically mine has been to the dealer 4 times mostly small things but once was to replace transmission gears as they were making noise. Time will tell on which investment will warrant less costs and effort in the end. The service history on my 07 is 5 pages long, transmission gears replaced multiple times along with drive shaft, shocks, instrument cluster, radio unit etc... and car only has 50k on it, I was a bit shocked when I first saw it. If I was looking again I would probably give a 05 a chance if it drove really well and didn't show any signs or issues. From resale perspective a 9k difference is going to be hard to retain once the 07 is out of warranty. From what you have said a key factor should be your willingness and time to work on the car or pay for work to be done and if the 05 has the upgraded diff or not. If your willing to work on the car and the 05 has the 06+ diff, 9k is a lot of money to play with. This probably helps little but its a tough one. Have you driven both cars?

I have not drove either cars. One is out of state and the other about 2 hrs. away. Would the updated diff show up on a carfax, or maybe a dealer check of the VIN? Was this a TSB, or recall?

Yeah, this is a tough one to figure out.

You need a service history report. Dealer should be able to run one for you at will.

I'd go for the 07. There's a few bits on it that are beefier than the LS6s such as diff and axles. Plus warranty will help you clean it up before you dive into mod hell.

If the '05 has the latest rear end I'd say it's a toss-up...I'd go for it just because it's thunder gray.

However...if you found a '07 that cheap jump on it.

Get the one with the warranty..... Always I have taken mine to the shop 3 times now; for small things, but all those small things add up and I didnt have to pay a penny. Then before your warranty expires, get the GMPP. You can cancel it anytime you want, or keep it and it is transferable. Also 0% interest on the gmpp

The 05 hasn't had any service history, other than a rear wheel bearing, so I'm confident it doesn't have the latest rear end. Is Thunder Gray a "rare" color?

Used car manager at my local Caddy dealer said 27K is where I should be on the 07. 29K is a "fair" price, in his opinion... however... he's a dealer and used to buying at the auction.

Without driving either the 07 holds a huge advantage even at 9k more. If the 07 was for sale at that price 5 months ago it would be in my garage right now.

Thank you... I'm going with the 07 and giving the xtra.

I know if you're gonna buy the 07, make sure you're not a heavy foot, cause thats a 4 year old car with only 6k miles. You gotta break it in since its not used to being driven so much, just like as if you were buying a brand new car.

Someone mentioned a 100k warranty on the 07... was that an option or standard? Same for 06? I assumed the 06 I just got had the standard 50k warranty on it (which it's past).

2007 was the beginning of the first year, that gm offerred the 100k powertrain warranty.

well, that's really good news as I'll have a couple years (2012) on the powertrain and engine. I figure that alone is worth at least $1,000 and seals the deal on the 2007, vs 2005.

I'm going to be picking up this car on Saturday. Once I get it and wax her up and post some pics.

Thank you everyone! I'm SUPER excited.

Come on now the LS2 is a vette motor as well. Just much more heavily used in... trucks. Congrats on the car, good choice on the black!:welcome:

I would say the 07 is the way to go if you can afford it. I would rather have the LS6, but there is not enough difference in the engines for that to be the deciding factor.

i was almost in the same position. i was shopping for an 06 (or 07 if the price was right), but then an 04 with 44k popped up at a local dealer. the price difference was around 10k for the 07s and 5-7k for 06s. i went for the 04, since the GM dealer was able to add GMPP. i think it comes down to coverage and condition.

Geez, what a lot of fun making a decision between two nice cars.

You gonna get any sleep between now and Saturday? :highfive:

I don't see the problem making a choice. LS6 and Stealth Gray. It's the ONLY choice. Well ... I am a little biased I guess.

No, i'm not going to be getting any sleep! i'm already looking at chrome rims... but not much to choose from.

I see a lot of the LS2 vs LS6 debate on this forum. LS2 being a truck motor and all. Well, maybe I'm ol' fashioned... but LS2 is 6.0 liters, LS6 is 5.7 liters. Well, for me... "There is NO replacement for displacement". I'll take the 6.0!

Only thing that sucks.... Chance of Thunderstorms on Saturday... so it may be getting some rain handed to it!

It sure is a pretty color for the V! I saw a stealth gray with the platinum interior, and that was a pretty car/ combination also.

I still like the Redline/ tan (maybe because I own it ;) ) best, but the greys are a close second ;)

I'm thinking similar to you, here's my thoughts:

1) Go with '05, save $9K
2) Pull LS2 and hopefully get $2.5-$3K
3) Now you have $12K plus a month of maintenance costs, as car is now 'down'
4) Buy Stroker and Power Adder, may be a few grand more but closer to budget if you go slightly used, 20psi sounds almost as good as 'Free Beer'
5) Of course now you need another $3K in parts, new Gen 3 diff and axles, easy to cover this, just swap the wifey's wedding rings with a CZ, trust me it works as I can personally attest
6) Rims and tires may break budgets, just cash-in kiddies college funds, as we all (Forum dudes) paid for our own college, why give your kids the easy way through life

No need to thank me OP, just git er dun!!!
