: 3D TV not for the young, old, drunk, pregnant or tired

Despite the fact that the majority of households haven't even updated to HD televisions yet, the industry is going full bore ahead with plans for 3D TVs in our living rooms.

But wait! Apparently they're concerned about the effects on.....nearly everyone, as evidenced by this warning (http://www.samsung.com/au/tv/warning.html) on Samsung's web site. My favorite part? Disorientation.

Viewing in 3D may cause disorientation for some viewers. Accordingly, DO NOT place your TV television near open stairwells, cables, balconies, or other objects that can be tripped over, run into, knocked down, broken or fallen over.

Ha ha. Hahahahahaha. 3D television is going to be the biggest flop.

Sounds like a disclaimer for drinking hard liquor! I am not at all sure I want things to visually come into my house or room .... especially given what they are broadcasting these days!

HDTV itself is stupid for most people. I personally don't care for it. Oh boy, you can see the blades of grass on the football field... meh.

3D TV is just overdoing it. I like 3D movies, they're cool. But they're cool because they're an occasional treat. You CAN have too much of a good thing, Samsung.

James Cameron makes one good movie utilizing 3-D and television jumps on the bandwagon?

3-D has been, and will always be, a gimmick. If Avatar had been filmed conventionally, and you wouldn't have missed much (and that is hands-down the best example of what 3-D is capable of).

The only thing I can see myself getting excited for on 3DTV would be porn. Then again, I don't like the thought of some dude's johnson leaping off the screen at my face.

I love HDTV, and not for the silly detail like grass, but just the overall improvement in clarity and color. Watching certain things like big budget movies on a good 1080p set with surround sound is so much more enjoyable than in SD.

Different strokes though.

+1. Occasionally while watching TV I'll flip to the same channel I'm watching in non-HD for fun just to appreciate the difference.

Although Comcast compressing the crap out of their HD signal displeases me :shifty

Seriously though, back in the 80's when you had the VHS vs Beta war, the porn industry decided to go with VHS. Beta was dead in less than a year.

Well, porn didn't go with blu ray (IIRC), and it's still around.

Given the current state of television programming, it's all moot.

They did, and that's what killed HD-DVD.

For now, it's a gimmick that barely works. I wouldn't be hanging my future on the success of the most recent itteration.

ok, and I though those were the primarily target of TV networks. But this can revolutionize TV, cause the lazy that sit on the couch all day, now have to be in shape to watch 3D TV
