Hello all, glad to say I am new here! Just put a deposit down on a '89 D'elegance with 73k for 4400.00 looked long and hard, this was the best one I found. Interior is showroom new and everything works. Anyway the moldings on the side of the car are beginning to yellow from age, any idea of how to whiten these up a bit without replacing or painting them (not that I would paint them) but just want to make them nice and white again. Thanks for all your help and this board looks pretty cool!

That sounds like an outstanding find! You need to get some pics up.

Are these things already painted? If so, maybe a clay bar followed by a cleaner wax? I know they use a different mix of paint on the plastic/rubbery stuff than they use on the metal surfaces. You may just be a victim of age.

They are original ones to the car still in good shape just getting dirty from age I guess. Must be something out there that will whiten them up. I will get pics up soon picking it up on Thursday.

Are these mouldings rubber? If they are, then get mothers back to black.

Lol, yea i have gray so when i saw it i was like, what the heck. it did a wonderful job on my K5 blazers fenders. Wal-mart or most auto parts stores. Make sure you test it out somewhere and don't get discouraged at first, it requires some serious elbow grease. :)

I painted the ones on my 89 a year ago with vinyl paint and they still look great. Only cost $4.50 too.

Just paint them. A friend of mine has a 1988 Sedan DeVille that they were going yellow on. When he got the car painted he got them to paint the mouldings too and they still look good now.
