I am by no means a Jeep person. I mean I kinda like the 1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limiteds, and I always thought the Grand Wagoneers were cool because they were the original luxury SUV, and they looked badass, but other than those, Jeeps never really did anything for me.

What made me really like the Grand Wagoneer was the size, design and luxury levels, but I'd totally neglected these. This is an '81 Cherokee Two Door with the Laredo package. Most of these have rusted to oblivion, so to find one this nice is almost impossible.

Ever since I saw that J10 Honcho in Twister, I've loved these full size Jeep trucks and SUV's...they just look so badass, and it seems as though they used more steel in them, or a thicker gauge of steel atleast. Everything feels heavy and has a nice solid clunk to it when it's shut.

I was kinda surprised to see some of the things this had for an '81....power windows, power locks, power seats, map lights, A/C. This must have been pretty top shelf for Jeep back then. It originally came with a 360, but the owner put a modified 401 in it.

Pretty cool stuff. I'm pretty fortunate to work in a field where I see cool stuff like this in my day-to-day work environment. :)
And yes, those license plates are awesome!

This is about comparable to a K5 Blazer/Bronco/Ramcharger right?

This is about comparable to a K5 Blazer/Bronco/Ramcharger right?

Basically, for its time. Though honestly the platform was originally conceived as Jeep's answer to combine the Suburban's practicality and the Land Rover's ability.

I didn't think those thing rusted to dust, but rather they just started self destructing soon after delivery and ended up a jumble of miscellaneous parts under their third owner's carport. Even the Soviets wouldn't buy the tooling after they were discontinued and who could blame them!

Pretty neat to see it clean! Yeah.... don't see many FSJ's still around. Just like the IH trucks. I think it depends on the region too and what sold most when new, IH was out west, down here the 60's-80's trucks still driving around are mostly Ford/Chevy.

I think that Cherokee would be comparable to an original Bronco or Scout? I'm not too caught up on the full size stuff.

That Jeep reminds me of that scene from ET where the g-men were chasing ET through the woods at night in their 4x4 trucks.

I used to drive one of those and I distinctly remember how cool that raised hood looked from the drivers seat, especially when cresting a hill. Cool truck.
