We were going to take my Regal up, but there was a lack of trunk space, so we took Jon's Yukon XL

So we took this instead. Jon's '07 Yukon XL. Couldn't imagine a better vehicle for the job. Plenty of space & luxury for the four of us, and plenty of room for our gear!

After a while, Evan drove. He typically drives an '01 Cherokee Sport and an '81 Trans Am, so he's not used to something so large & unwieldy.

Driving east through the middle of Wisconsin on Highway 70.

One of the bigger towns on Highway 70 is Siren, which ironically enough, was hit hard by a Tornado in 2000 or 2001. It was rebuilt quickly though.

This is Jason, he's the one having the child. It's a long/weird/funny story.

All the badging was stripped off this Chevy, but I'd guess it's a 1973-74 Laguna or Chevelle SS or S3. The badge on the side denotes this had the 350

http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs492.ash1/26904_624122598142_199104188_35598453_6509941_n.jp g
It's been off the road since 1991.

And Jason's once magnificent 1993 Nissan Maxima SE is of course, MUCH better by comparison! Of the four of us from EHS, he's the only one that still has the car he had in high school. I suppose it still has some sentimental value or something. I remember the day we test drove this.

Nice Yukon! I've always liked those, as cool as an Escalade without all the "look at me!" styling.

Evan's got nice land. It's lake side, has a firepit and lots of wooded area. He has a 30 foot enclosed trailer his parents bought about 5 years ago. It's got space for 5 people, a full kitchen and a seperate bedroom. We go up here 3-4 times a year.

http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs492.ash1/26904_624123705922_199104188_35598524_4446555_n.jp g
Evan loves his Coors. He's a Smokey And The Bandit fiend. I think this may have partially been the reasoning behind buying the '81 Trans Am.

We used gas to accelerate the fire. It got quite large.

As per tradition, we all bought cigars to celebrate Olivia, his daughter. She's due on 4/23, but she could come anytime. This was the only weekend that worked for everyone.

Me with my cigar. Hard to do a self shot semi drunk, holding a cigar, when it's like 41* out. I liked it a lot. I could get into cigars, but only on occasion.

We kept piling on the brush. Pine needles burn GREAT!

The fire was so hot, it would burn glass bottles & melt beer cans. These shattered shortly after the picture was taken.

Maki's Maxima originally came from Viking down in Rochester, they're my biggest account for work.

Some ones having a girl? Congrats to them, that surely is also the only reason this is around:

What your friend needs is a fundraiser. Children are an expensive proposition, girls especially so. But, they can be darn cute.

No kidding. He's only been working part time for a couple of months now. His girlfriend quit her job a few months back, and they'll both graduate college this year. They both plan on becoming teachers. She would be elementary ed, and he'd be more like middle school.

What kind of Chevy is that? Does anyone know?

That Maxima, when he got it, was really fun to drive. Very taut steering and suspension. Truly the 4DSC. That 3.0L Twin Cam 24V V6 is a hoot to drive too, especially once it sweeps past 3500 RPM and it really picks up speed. It's got the four speed automatic, so it's kind of a slug around town, but it picks up nicely on the highway. If he had the five speed manual, it could run head to head with the GS in the 0-60 sprint.

What kind of Chevy is that? Does anyone know? It's a '73 Chevelle. Not a Laguna S-3; that had a different front end with an Endura bumper. Judging from the two-tone on the front fender, it may be an SS:

Awful what they did to bumpers in '73....

It's awful what they did to the Chevelle period in 1973. There isn't an attractive line on that car! It went downhill so much from 1972.

Great pics. Lakefront property, booze, bonfire, stogies, good friends, what more could you ask for? Looks like some good, clean fun to send your friend off into a life of fatherhood. Good for him.

That can of Coffee Bender made my stomach wince in pain. Beer infused with coffee? Never heard of it, but that's hard-core.

P.S. I got a kick out of the "currency" photo, too. Good stuff.

Initially you get away cheap with girls - no cigars to hand out: It's doughnuts with pink icing :sneaky:

I guess it is just Beauty in the eye of the beholder. I always liked 73-77 Malibus. I don't like to call them chevelles though. We had a few when I was a kid so that could be why. I love 73's with the dual round tails. They are kind of the last of the real GM muscle cars (I use muscle cause these cars were designed with big blocks in mind, only ended up with anemic engines cause of emission standards) that are affordable. They are starting to go up in price though.

In 73 you could get a factory SS wagon with a 4 SPD and a 454 if you checked the right boxes.
