View Full Version : EBTCM - where it is? Hooshee 08-20-04, 02:15 PM I just bought a 95 ETC.
I have the code P137 and I032 (both says loss of ABS/Traction Data), The traction disabled warning, and of course I've no ABS.
My docs says the EBTCM should be somewhere in the trunk, but I can' find it .
I found the Remote Keyless Antry, the Windshield Heating, etc on the left side, And a very big panel on the right with three cable connections, but it seems to be the Ride control module. And nothing else, which could be related to the brakes or traction.
Is the EBTCM in common box with the Ride Control? And if so, which connectors belongs to which system?
Any ideas? Hooshee 08-20-04, 03:27 PM I don't know whether it makes difference, or not, but this ETC was made for export (Switzerland). Can't help specifically for a '95. But this might be a clue:
On my '98 model, the EBTCM is married to the ABS valve module located at the bottom left front corner of the engine compartment.
The "major" difference in Euro export cars is lighting, right?? Hooshee 08-20-04, 03:53 PM Lightning and wiring in some places, for example the circuit 800, if I understood well on my diagrams...
MAybe you're right with this engine compartment stuff, because in the rear no loose cables, no place for screws, nothing which could be related with the EBTCM... Follow the brake lines. They all lead to the EBTCM under the hood. Hooshee 08-21-04, 04:28 PM Thanks for you guys, finally I found it... The bad new is that it seems I've to replace it, but I can't find any place on the net for mwhere I could order it...
Any ideas? Try this one http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ Use the "E-Mail Us" button and tell them what you are looking for and give them your VIN so you get the correct part number.
That is an expensive item; are you sure your's is failed?? Hooshee 08-22-04, 08:11 AM Unfortunately yes :(
But I'll try at BOSCH central first, because I've got good connections with them, maybe they can help.
Thanks a lot want you to know there is a safety recall,on the 97 recall # 97V064000,it includes the 1997 eldorado, good luck.Mine was acting uo,disconected it took some contact spray cleaner, sprayed on contacts and afterwords worked perfectly.Mine got all wet when waterpump got changed, and every time when taking off from start the tracion control woul come on,and cleaning connections worked for me.Good luck. Logandiagnostic 08-22-04, 02:04 PM Just to clarify....'92 -94 the unit is smack center in the trunk. Big silver box with Bosch on it.
'95 the unit moved out under the hood as described.
There have been alot of problems with the electrical connection under the hood. So I would inspect the connector first.

I have a friend here who is great in fixing electronics, If the spraying will not help, he will try to fix it. The last thing will be to order a new one.
Btw, this is a bosch electronic, is it installed in other cars (for example Cadillac Catera, which is an Opel Omega basically) ?
Because maybe I could easier find a used one if it is used in other cars... hlisman 09-25-04, 08:04 PM I have the same problem. My question is : How do you get to the connector? From the top or the bottom of the car? Hooshee 09-26-04, 03:14 AM From the top, you have to remove the air filter hlisman 09-26-04, 09:23 AM That gets you to the PCM, not the EBTCM. Logandiagnostic 09-26-04, 01:49 PM Its there....down low. Be sure to check the electrical connector.
