What do you guys think? http://www.eautoworks.com/ORD-Auto~Performance-Volant~Intake-no-23375-none.cfm inline6 08-20-04, 03:18 PM I ordered one from http://www.tbyrnemotorsports.com/ on a group purchase a couple of weeks ago. It is "supposed" to ship next week. I believe their normal price is considerably less than the price in the link you supplied. The Volant part number is 15836C mhousealum 08-20-04, 03:42 PM Thanks Inline....I'll check it out... Dr Evil 08-20-04, 06:51 PM I suggest that you contact Rodney @ Lil Devil Motorsports, one of our sponsors. He and I have been communicating about this part for the 4.6 L V-8, and he has been tremendously helpful. He states that this closed box unit is superior to the simple cone filters for airflow effectiveness and noise suppression. He has quoted me a price far better that what you've listed above. I'm planning on going with this unit, and somehow optimizing airflow from the hose under the grille to the box itself. It should be a straightforward install, and the internal cone filter can be cleaned and reused repeatedly. inline6 08-23-04, 01:34 PM One thing to be aware of is the V6 and V8 take different kits so make sure you order the the correct version. Also, Volant offers under bumper scoops, similar to the old Olds W30 ram air, for their pick-up intakes. It should not take too much to adapt one to the SRX. Samboosa 10-12-04, 09:00 AM Does it really help that much? I mean 10-15 HP as volant states. The V8 model is out and I've been thinking about it. Any suggestions or comments? inline6 10-12-04, 02:19 PM As our SRX is primarily my wifes, I have not put to many miles on our V6 AWD version when it had the stock intake, but here are my inputs. The Volant was installed just prior to taking an 1100 mile trip to the coast. The system is very easy to install and is well made. My only complaint is there is no gasket where the lid attaches to the airbox. It may not make a difference but it would make it more finished. There is no increase in noise due to the change. It did not turn on the check engine light It has a nice reusable cone filter with significantly more surface area than the vacuum cleaner filter it came with. Mileage for the trip was never under 20mpg and went as high as 22. This was our first trip in the car and it only now has 5K miles on it, so I do not have something to compare it to. The first tank was a 21.6 with any average speed of 72.1 mph. Elevation started at 2700ft, went as high as 4600 and ended up about 100ft. On the return trip ran it hard up a very long twisty grade at ~80 in fourth and it still averaged over 21. I really do not know if I could tell an increase of 10 or 15 horsepower, but it pulled very well on hills and when needed for passing. It seemed to be better than before the installation, but it could also be due to the drivetrain getting broken in. 04SRX-V 10-18-04, 08:41 PM anyone know where to find the volant intake in stock??? inline6 10-19-04, 05:36 PM Not sure about in stock, but I purchased mine from TBYRNE and they had it shipped direct from Volant. Volant had 15 V6 versions on hand at that point. It's probably worth the toll free call. 04SRX-V 10-21-04, 01:27 PM thanks ill try em CaddyFan2004 10-21-04, 11:16 PM Does it really help that much? I mean 10-15 HP as volant states. The V8 model is out and I've been thinking about it. Any suggestions or comments? I think that if it was that simple to add 10 - 15 HP that Cadillac would be doing it. Samboosa 10-22-04, 08:53 AM I think that if it was that simple to add 10 - 15 HP that Cadillac would be doing it. And decrease the difference in power a V version would have? I don't think so. 04SRX-V 10-22-04, 11:36 AM i plan on doing a lot more than intake to increase power. if they figure out the computer coding ill get it reprogrammed. maybe a centrigual blower. definitely work on exhaust maybe build some headers for it. it will run 12's someday just like my other :sneaky: 4500lb land yacht runs 12's in the 1/4 and autocross better than some ZO6 vettes. inline6 10-22-04, 12:48 PM GM did not put a decent intake in because they try to save pennies everywhere. Look at the seat tracks and sun visors on the SRX for other examples. I do not know about the V8, but the V6 filter element looks like something out of a cheap hand held vacuum and they are not currently available in the aftermarket; dealer only item. The Volant uses a large reusable element which eliminates the need for any future filter purchases As far as horsepower and mileage gains, almost all GM products will benefit from an intake and muffler change. Besides cost, GM has internal noise and performance constraints that we as individuals may not care about or need. For example, my Z06 Corvette picked up over two tenths of a second consistently in the quarter mile after only an intake change. There are numerous proven horsepower and mileage gains on GM trucks. The SRX is a wonderful car as is, but some want more performance, mileage, more toys etc... | |
