We have a couple thousand miles until we hit 30k on our caddy. The dealer said we should plan on bringing it in for it's 30k maintenance package....cha-ching, cha-ching--I'm sure.

So...what is required? I'm not trying to do the "minimum required," I just want to be smart about it and not do anything that isn't necessary. Besides, we have other options other than the Caddy Dealer so if I know what it is that we should do, I can just ask for it where we normally take our cars.

Also, typically speaking, how long are the stock brakes good for....50k?

Thanks!

Dawn

A 30,000 mile 'package' is the dealer's effort at filling empty service bays.

Keep your oil & filter changed per the OIL LIFE message and motor on.

Inspect - replace the air filter from time to time, particularily if your MPG drops a little.

Good idea to clean the perimeter of the throttle blade as a preventative item to avoid pedal stickiness at 'off-idle'.

You could be approaching 5 years on the coolant (look for a build date on the driver's door). Start thinking about draining (not flushing) the coolant and refilling with fresh 50/50 Dex-Cool / distilled water mix plus a tube or two of Barsleak Gold Seal powder. Place the powder in one of the large hoses, not the surge tank.

Brakes depend too much on driving style to make a guess. One driving tip (or rather a parking tip); set the emergency brake once a month, or more frequently.

Drive it and enjoy.

Dawn Ditto to Jim D. Even if you read the 30K service at ther dealer, you will see a lot of "check" and "inspect". i wrote service at a Caddy dealer and I hated it....for years! Always trying to sell these 30K's for $300.00+ and we did a lot of checking. Keep that oil changed, check your filters, rotate the tires and check the brakes. Drive on!!! :bouncy:

As mentioned, brakes depend on your driving style and whether it's city or highway. I have 88k on mine and still original front brakes. Changed rears only because of corrosion on the rotor. Just replaced tires at 86600.

Why do you say to use the parking brake once a month? I don't ever use mine, as i live and drive on flat land, but would be more than willing to push the pedal down a coupla times a month if it will prevent something bad from happening. That is, once i get my dang car running again... :crying:

Setting the parking brake ocassionally used to adjust the rear brakes. That is no longer the case but it will excersise the mechanism and help keep it from rusting up.
