OK, so now we've decided on Early June. What do you all wanna do??

Aside from the Mall of America, there's a drag strip out in Rock Falls Wisconsin, which is having a test n' tune day on the 12th and 13th! We could run that! It's out near Eau Claire, which is about 90 minutes east of Minneapolis, so not too long of a drive at all.

Ellingson Car Museum, out in Rogers, 45 minutes Northwest.

Porky's on Saturday night:

North St Paul's weekly pre 1976 car show on Friday nights:

What do you guys wanna do for food? Any specific place?

Its your town. You think of someplace awesome to eat. We're fully expecting to be entertained.

No one has topped Nick's Iowa meet yet.

So how many threads do we need for this meet? :D

Do we have a final date set? I don't care when it is, but I need exact dates, so I can start setting up appointments with my customers.

Oh that's right, JD was the only one that wanted to go to MOA.

There's a great Jewish deli near me, if you guys want some of that.

Gary, you driving? If so, you bringing Hoov? I'm not sure how Beretta would do on that long of a trip............

gdwriter
03-24-10, 12:13 AM
No, I'm going to fly. I burned three vacation days for JD's wake and funeral, and I'm driving Cruella to North Dakota around the 4th of July to give her to my niece. I don't have enough vacation days left to make a round trip to Minneapolis. Wish I could since Hoover and I had a great time on last year's trip.

Hoover is an amazing road tripper. I'd usually take a break every 2-3 hours to stretch my legs and Hoover's. I never had any trouble getting him back into the car, and he's so well behaved at motels. We've taken a lot of road trips over the past five years, so he knows the routine pretty well.

The 11th to 13th? Is this in stone? Because I need to arrange my work schedule.

EDIT: Mall of America? Hmm, could relive my Valley Boy days, totally hangin' at, you know, like, the Galleria.

Or not.

Here is Fogo's website. I know I have done large groups there and it does work very well and the food is great. I mean it is all various cuts of meat....and a salad. Price is reasonable for a nice meal out. If you make reservations very early Bar La Grassa is probably the best pasta in town and is very affordable! Only issue is it can be tough to get a table in Friday's and Saturday's.

Do you want swanky or affordable?

Swanky look up the Grand Hotel in St. Paul, Graves 601 in Minneapolis, or the "W" also in Minneapolis. All are online. The "W" is in the historic Foshay tower downtown. Otherwise there are the Marriot, Marquette, Hyatt, and Ramada downtown are all very nice and good access to the whole twin cities area. I have stayed at the Graves and Ramada for business even though I am in town and would recommend either. The "W" has nice bars with the Living Room and Prohibition. Hope that helps......

I am sure I~luv~caddies will have more idea.

55123 is the zip code for the city I live in. We're 15 minutes southeast of Minneapolis. If you'd like to use that as a basis for hotels, it would be a good idea.

Ranger
03-25-10, 09:27 PM
Yeah, lets stay away from downtown. I was at the Crown Plaza in Egan last year and that was pretty nice as I recall. I was there the year before as well, but can't remember the name of the place. It was really nice as well and about in the same vicinity. Both where $55 - $85 a night as I recall.

I~LUV~Caddys8792

Count me in for at least one night. If we go to North St. Paul or something I'd be in. What else are we planning? Cruise around the lakes? Skip the trip to MOA, it's just a big mall. Rock Falls would be fun but it's a bit of a poke out there, and for a dragstrip, they're not cheap. There's always Treasure Island or Mystic Lake for the gambling type, that was fun in Davenport a few years ago.

Ok, so here's what I'm thinking so far....

We meet up at which ever hotel you all choose late Friday afternoon, then go out to eat somewhere then get up to North St Paul's car show sometime before 7 or so, as they wind down around 8:30. Then go out for drinks and stuff later.

Saturday, we get up and either go on a cruise down HWY 61 which parallels the Mississippi or go out to the drag strip in Rock Falls and then we could go out and get food/drink later on.

Sunday, we go up to Ellingson's car museum in Rogers in the morning, then brunch then depart.

This is just a rough idea. I'm certainly open to any other ideas.

JimmyH
04-02-10, 05:50 PM
I was going to book a hotel, but then I figure I would wait, since Jesda likes to do the last minutes priceline thing, and I would rather be at the same hotel; so just let me know what hotel you wind up at.

Perhaps, but what the heck's on their menu? All it says it's hand written on the black board daily and it's family friendly. If I wanted to take a chance, we could all jump in the Bangbus and we could cruise on down to Mystic Lake.

I like the suggestion, but maybe it's too far south to go to Pepin? That's like 90 minutes isn't it? I dunno though, it might be cool. Wisconsin's 35 is a lot of fun though.

Is there any interest in doing meet shirts again? I interviewed a couple of entrepreneurship students today who have a screen printing and graphics business in Corvallis. I told them that it would be a small run of maybe 10 shirts, and nobody would want to spend more than $15 each, which they could likely do. If there's interest, let me know, and I'll see what I can find out.

Call a couple that are close to you and see if they'll give any group rates and remember, they ARE negotiable. Tell them what you got from the competition (if it's better). I think I stayed at the Crown Plaza last year. Nice place and not to expensive as I recall, then again I did get a UAL price.

I would think if you tell them it is for a group and you may have 10-20 rooms they'll give you a good rate. Let them know you are shopping. I'd say $70 - $80 would be a good rate. They may block 20 rooms til a week before for you and we'll have to book before that to get the rate. That's what I did when I hosted our reunion here last year.

Keep in mind that you may get a better price than priceline if you ask for a group rate. Tell them you don't know how many, perhaps 10 - 20. Also keep in mind that there are a LOT of Minnesota guys on here who may decide to show up, but are not in MSP. Once we have a hotel I plan on posting in the Seville and Deville forums for the guys who do no come to the lounge.

Chad, what neighborhoods or areas of town should be avoided?

Well, for cities near the airport, I'd stay out of Richfield (don't let the name fool you, Richfield is NOT the rich side of town), South St. Paul and West St. Paul. Richfield borders the Twin Cities international airport, but it's to the west. I live in Eagan, which is east-southeast of the MSP. Eagan is only 15 minutes away from the airport, and since it's pretty much centrally located, I'd just as well find a hotel there.

I REALLY need to make it to one of these..........

I was all set to go to the one in Chicago, last year, but had to cancel... I had hotel booked, and everything -- almost got Adam to go too...(I think I got Rolex thinking about it too, for a few minutes anyway...)

The MPLS meet coincides w/one of Beretta's 6-week obedience school classes, and I've rescheduled the start date 3 times already....they're going to freak if I do it again... If it weren't for that, I could have scheduled a work trip to MPLS for the couple of days before, and gotten part of it paid for, too.... ARGHH!

I'll just run down to Rochester and back in the morning and be home by noon, so I can just pick up anyone when they fly in.

Unless, if anyone is flying in during the morning hours, I'll just take Friday off.

Just rechecked my class syllabi. I'm taking four classes this semester, two of which are somewhat heavy. I don't think I'm going to make this meet. :( I really wanted to see MSP too. Unfortunately, I need that weekend to finish some research papers, meet for group work, and work on presentations. Between missing this and the big NICO meet in Carlisle PA, my summer is pooched.

Richfield is not bad, My Grandpa who was an Executive at AmFam lives there in a very nice house. The guy I bought my Impala SS from lives there too and he has a Ferarri. I personally wouldn't be worried to walk anywhere in richfield where I have been. I am sure it has its bad parts but it is an older Yuppie neighborhood for the most part.

Yeah, just call the hotel and ask for rates. Then ask if they can give you any discounts. Tell them you are checking rates at different hotels for a meet and you are looking for the best rate. Empty rooms net them NOTHING. You'd be amazed at the rates my wife gets, but you have to ask. They won't offer. If they ask how many, tell them maybe 10, but you are not sure (might be more). Remember, there are a lot of Minnesota guys here who may decide to show once we get the info out on the other forums (I suspect a lot don't read this one).

I am still trying to figure out what other days I am going to be up there. That will factor into my hotel decision. My sales rep is dragging his feet on setting up appointments, so i might just be up for the two nights after all.

It'll be easier to priceline.

Lets go over the itinerary again:

Friday:
Everyone arrives and we go out to dinner somewhere. Would we rather do a formal place or a cheaper burger joint like Smashburger or Five Guys, or perhaps a pizza joint? There are three very good car shows in the area too every Friday night. North St Paul is anything older than 1975, and it's about a half mile of street that's blocked off for viewing. Anoka is a lot like that, but it's about an hour north of me, and Hastings is the same setup, but it's probably 2x the size of North St Paul, again, it's only classics. Porky's is OK, but the other three have much cooler, rarer cars and the crowd is much less douchey.

Saturday:
Go out on a nice cruise down on the Mississippi River or maybe perhaps out to Rock Falls Raceway for a test n' tune. Go out to eat at night somewhere. Anoka and Hastings have their car shows on Saturday night as well.

Sunday:
Brunch and then anything else you'd want to do.

Before doing Priceline, we need to know exactly how many rooms. When you bid on a price, you can only specify the area where you want to stay (we're looking at places near the airport) and the amenity level of the hotel (usually three stars); you do not get to choose the specific hotel. And once your bid is accepted, your credit card is charged. Since we all want to stay in the same hotel, one person has to make the reservation. JimmyH has said he's willing to do this, but he's only going to bid based on who says they need a room Friday and Saturday night.

And if you do RSVP, you need to pay for your room as soon as the reservation is made. When Jesda has done this for us in the past, anybody he makes a reservation for would reimburse him via PayPal. If Jimmy doesn't have a PayPal account, he can tell you how to pay him. If you're not sure, we'll post the hotel location once the reservations are made, and you can choose to make a reservation there on your own or stay at another hotel.

Enough procrastination I have called the Hilton and secured a group rate. I'll be making my reservations as soon as I finish this post. Here is the info.

Lawrence,

Good morning! Thanks for the opportunity to work with you and your group here June 11-13, 2010. I have set aside a block of 10 rooms for you. Please have your guests ask for the “Cadillac Owners” Room block to get the special discounted $89 rate.

Individuals will be making their own reservations directly with our Reservations Department at 952/893-9500 or 1-800-HILTONS, or 1-800-445-8667 by Friday, June 4, 2010.

After Friday, June 4, 2010, any uncommitted rooms will be released. Reservations requested after that date will be accepted as long as availability permits on a first-come, first-serve basis.

All individuals making their reservations directly with the hotel must guarantee the first night’s room and tax with a credit card or check advance deposit. Each can still cancel his or her reservation until 12:01 AM on the day of arrival without incurring any cancellation charge. Cancellations made after 12:01 AM and no-shows will forfeit the first night’s room and tax deposit.

ARRIVAL TIME:

Check-in time is 3:00pm. While every effort is made to accommodate guests arriving before 3:00pm, rooms may not be immediately available.

Check-out time is 12:00 noon. Requests to retain rooms beyond 12:00 noon should be directed to the Front Office Supervisor after the guest is registered. Should it be possible to extend a late check-out, a late departure charge may be applied.

Our hotel website is www.bloomingtonhilton.com

Here you should find directions and our amenities we offer at the property.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Todd

OK -- I'm in.

I've talked to Todd at the Hilton, and Beretta will be accepted w/their fee. What are we looking at as far as timing, as I'm going to have to deal w/this dog...?

It will be late afternoon/early evening when I get to the hotel. When is everyone getting there, and when are we going out for the evening?

What is the timing for Saturday, and where are we going? I can leave him for 4-5 hours at a time, crated at the hotel. Anymore than that, and I've got to come back and check on/walk him. If all we're doing on Saturday is driving or going to multiple outdoor locations, then I can take him with us -- but I don't want to leave him in the car for any length of time.

Sunday, I'll be leaving fairly early.

My other option would be to board him and bring a Cadillac -- but I really don't like boarding him that long....it would be like 4 days.....

I'm taking a half day on Friday, so I'll be home around noon.

Can we get a final head count on who's all coming? I'm interested to see how many people from MN are going to show.

Yes, that's the plan. I'm taking Friday off so I can pull shuttle duty for the hotel. Larry & Jimmy, are you driving up or flying?
I'm driving. Leaving around 10:00. Should put me there around 4:00 - 5:00 I think.

OK for hunyucks like me who have been to busy to check the forum, is there an write up I am missing for what and where this weekend? I just realized it was this weekend today, I will be home so I can probably attend most events My Caddy is leaking tranny fluid bad and I haveít had time to look at it, but I can limp it around for a weekend. I live in Rogers. I am game for North St. Paul. What else is the plan? I read most of this thread over the past weeks and I must have missed what the final plan was.

Thanks

Sorry Chad and Gary -- but I can't make it. Something's come up at work, and I can't take Friday off. I must sound like the little boy who cried wolf, but there's not much I can do. And last year's Chicago meet was right after my mom died -- so that was kind of out...

Hopefully next year will work..... If someone needs a room -- I'm about to cancel mine w/the Hilton -- just FYI.

Saturday is the Ellingson Car Museum and maybe another cruise in (not sure where). Sunday morning is brunch at Granite City in Eagan.

Us out-of-towners are staying at the Hilton in Bloomington so that will likely be the meeting place before we head out anywhere.

Ok, cool! V-Owners are welcome as a matter of fact. We'll all meet up at the Hilton in Bloomington (the big one right near the airport) at 6 and wait for anyone who's not there. The greatest Cadillac dealer in the state (Key) is only about 10 minutes from the Hilton, which is cool if we need to kill time beforehand..

what time is dinner? not that I want to hold you guys up, but I am hoping to make it there by 6pm.

That's fine. The North St. Paul car show generally runs 5-9, so we should probably get dinner afterwords so we'll have maximum car viewing time. So maybe we could just eat a big lunch or mid afternoon snack?

I checked the weather, and it looks like it's gonna be humid both Friday and Saturday, with a chance of scattered t-storms on Friday and more widespread t-storms on Saturday. :( It's gonna be beautiful Sunday though.... :alchi:

I was wondering that as well. I have a buddy with a 1949 Jag... but I don't think there is anyway I will be getting that for the day. :tisk:

Hopefully the weather holds off. From what KARE11 is saying we might have severe storms on Friday and Saturday. Although I guess it is saving me time with the wash, polish, and wax!

Yeah, the weather forecast (http://beta.weather.com/weather/weekend/USMN0503) for this weekend isn't great, but we might get lucky Friday evening. If we're at the car museum in Rogers on Saturday, crummy weather won't be as much of a problem.

Yeah, the weather isn't looking so hot. My friends won't bring their Broughams out of their garages if there's any chance of rain, but they offered to have us over to show us his '91 Brougham D'Elegance. He'll probably come out to the festivities with us, but he'll take his newly acquired '85 Caprice Classic instead, a car that is almost as sweet as his Brougham.

Since No times were said, I am going to be at North St. Paul in the show around 6 (unless somethings changed they usually don't like cars there before the start, business owners get pissy). Can't miss the pink caddy (That is if they let me in the show, I have to argue with them everytime cause my car "has to be too new as it has square headlights" :banghead:)

Just a suggestion, but There were a few nice places to get a bite at in north St. Paul. You wouldn't have to miss the show then.

06-09-10, 09:10 PM
Well, since Jimmy wants to meet us after the show, maybe everyone who's free before 6:00 should go out for food before we go to the show, after you're checked in at the hotel & everything?

It's hard to get food at the cruise in. Most of the restaurants & bars on the street are packed, and there's lots of vendors on the street but it's mainly stuff like corn dogs & stuff like that. It's probably best to grab a bite to eat sometime in the afternoon someplace near the hotel, then get a nice dinner somewhere after the show.

Tanner (dirrtydeville) & Brian (90Brougham350) are going to meet us sometime on Friday night. So let's just all plan on meeting at the hotel at 6, then we'll all go to the show after that. I'll tell them that, otherwise we'll meet HJ at the show and Jimmy afterwords. The show runs until 8:30 or 9 at night, then everyone packs up and heads home. It starts at 6 though.

We could do the 5-8 club as Steve suggested, otherwise there's the ever glorious "Lions Tap" over in Eden Prairie, home of the best burgers in the Twin Cities.

Here's a listing of eateries in the area I love and highly suggest attending:

Great mongolian BBQ:

Sunday morning brunch:

LIONS TAP!! Great, big juicy burgers at reasonable prices. Been in biz since '77, and hasn't changed at all.

Excellent & classy Jewish delicatessen. Gary, Brian and I went here last summer.

Great, neapolitan style pizzeria over on Grand Ave in St. Paul, lots of bars in this area too. Classy joint.

And since the DCM wagon is costing me a fortune, the $500 I would have spent going to MPLS can pay for the ROOF REPAINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Due to the BUBBLED PAINT BLOTCHES on the roof that my evidently partially blind friend did not see when he inspected said wagon, as it was covered in a quarter inch of dirt.

Admittedly, I didn't see them either until it was washed....

So, let's count:
Multiple trips back and forth to Chicago
New tires
Tune up
Tranny rebuild
Misc. electrical repairs
Some kind of throttle sensor
New brake lines
NEW A/C COMPRESSOR
Detail
Repainted hood
Repainted roof
Rubber trim reinstall
Window tint
XM Radio
And I may have missed some things by now...

I think I have $8K in it, and the car is only $2K of it.......but I guess half the car will be rebuilt, it will look awesome, the interior is spotless, and it only has 65K miles.....

Some fool will probably total it the day I pick it up.....I would FREAK!

I did find a ruby red cargo shade in Chicago, however, for the white wagon !! WIN
