hiya can anyone help i am still getting used to my outstanding fleetwood 86 but on the dash i saw a security system panel does it have a security system and if so how would i use it and i am just getting so much joy just driving it i get people stopping me all the time and taking photoes and asking about it and people cant belive that i only paid about $800 in U.S. dollars for it and it only has 20.000 miles on the clock i was brought straight from the U.S. and the guy i got it from hardly ever drove it so i think i got a good deal :coolgleam

hell yeah you got a good deal! show us some pictures. damn. if you ever want to sell it (or know of someone else that's selling an 80s or early 90s cadillac for cheap) let me know!

yeah my 1980 fleetwood also has the "security system" light. i think all the big-body 80s, 91, and 92 cadillac fleetwoods used the same light panel thing. i never understood it though, and it's never come on, and as far as i know my car doesn't have and never did have a stock security system. i do have an aftermarket alarm though, with a light that sits in the dash and blinks every 2 seconds. what i thought about doing was wiring that light to the "security system" bulb, so when the light flashes: "Security System" flashes on the dash ;) i'll probably never get around to it anyway, but i need to spend an hour on day and trace where the security system light goes to in my car, if it's even hooked up at all. maybe security systems were a dealer addon

If you're up for a good time,

Lock the doors on the car. Shut the door (don't sit on the driver's seat.) Then, sit on the driver's seat. Trumpet horn and headlight hilarity will follow.

My grandma inadvertently did that to me in the '85 once. I was like 10 and she locked me in the car while she went into Phar-Mor (that or I locked it for some reason. To make a long story short, all hell broke loose and I had a very, very red face.

Well, if it is anything like the factory security system in my '89 Brougham, it will go off if the door locks are unlocked from the inside after the car has been locked for a little while and it also has a wire that is attached to the hood ornament that triggers the alarm when pulled. As far as I know there are no shock sensors or anything though. To disable the alarm once it is triggered simply insert and turn the key in the driver's side door (pain in the ass when you are already in the car). Sounds like kind of a lame alarm, but it did save my car one day. Someone broke the window and reached in to unlock the door. As soon as they unlocked it, the alarm went off and they fled. Had to buy a new window, but at least I still had my car.

The factory Theft Deterrent System has been available on all Cadillacs since the early 70's. It has always been an option that never seemed to be very popular until the early 90's. In other words, there weren't many cars that had the system. Since it was an available option, all the cars had a recepticle in the dash for the "SECURITY" bulb that came from the theft deterrent controller. If your car does have the option, when you open any door with the ignition off, the amber "SECURITY" lamp will flash until you activate the power door lock switch and then shine steady until all the door are closed and then the lamp will go out and the system is armed.
