: Nav screen went haywire

This morning we got in the car and the nav screen went bezerk. There was no stereo and no nav. There were some fuzzy lines running horizontally across the screen and nothing worked.

I let the car sit for a few hours and tried it again. Now everything is working normally. Car is totally stock electronically, no LockPick or UPac installed.

I scheduled a dealership visit for tomorrow but I know they won't be able to find out anything if it's not malfunctioning when it goes in.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm hoping it was a 1 time glitch but I am concerned nonetheless.

Noone else has heard of this happening?

Yep has happened to me twice, and they've replaced the Nav/radio each time. Now you may have to wait till it's actually doing it and take it to them so they can see it. But as I understand it these model Nav/radios having issues isn't uncommon and they may already be aware and just swap it out. However in all cases they have to pull the number off of your unit to order a replacement and it will be a day or two before they get it in.

BTW I'm on my 5th or 6th Nav/radio for various issues. This data is about a year old now, but you get the idea ;)

Same exact thing happened to me. It was only out for a short while though. Mine just started working again after I locked the car and walked away for about 30 minutes. Pretty wierd.

I took mine into the dealer for a check engine light and got it back with the light out, but the nav radio not working. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with it and asked me if it was working when I dropped it off. Ha. Nothing would happen like it wasn't getting any power. I pulled the fuse which is located under the back seat on the passanger side and left it out for about 10 minutes and put it back in and the thing has worked fine since.

In both of my cases the problem would repeat, it wasn't a one time deal. I would tell my service advisor it had occurred, then the next time take it to them and show them it was doing it.

I could not find a fuse box for the life of me. I didnt think to look there...

Mine only did it the one time (knock on wood :thepan:).

I have driven the car 10 or 12 times including a 12 hour road trip and it hasn't freaked out again.

I am hoping that it was a one time event. :rant2:

Mine seems to work fine BUT.
Every time I turn on the Nav or turn on the car and the Nav has been on I get the "Warning" screen and I have to push the "I Agree" button.
This does not happen in two other GM vehicles I own with Nav.

I know the dealer took the Nav disc out of a 2007 STS (not a V).
He could not find the Nav disc that came with the STS-V I bought.

It's a good idea to take your Nav disk and burn a copy of it using a Dual Layer DVD-R and then keep the copy in the car's Nav and the original in a safe place.

I have to "Agree" every time in my 08 also.

Standard liability issue with most GPS's. Jaguar, Mercedes, Cadillac, they all do it. When you press "Agree" it assumes you actually read the bit about not being distracted.

I'm always distracted when the disclaimer pops up. I just hit agree without ever actually reading it. :thepan:
