View Full Version : new brougham owner and speaker question Steeltag 08-18-04, 08:02 PM Hiya everyone, I finally got back into owning a Caddy after my '94 Sedan Deville was totaled 2 years ago. I'm a very proud owner of a' 92 blue Brougham D'Elegance in amazingly great condition. It only has the 305 motor unfortunately but the car feels so tight...rides so well...no creaks or noise emitting from this vehicle with 143,xxx miles on it!!!!
I want to upgrade the speakers, can anyone tell me what size the originals are so that I can start shopping around intellegently??
thanks,
:bouncy: AElayyat 08-18-04, 08:08 PM 4x6 up front in the dash, and 6x9 for the rears. As far as I know the 92 Broughams had 4 speakers. Just watch out if you got the Bose in there, I'd recomend taking it to a reputable stereo shop unless you have dealt with Bose befor. barge master 08-18-04, 10:17 PM You sure it's 6x9 in the rear AElayyat? I just got some for mine and they were too big. I think they are 5x7. brougham 08-19-04, 01:17 AM The service manual says the same sizes that AElayyat said. If you can take them out easy that's probably the best way to check. AElayyat 08-19-04, 07:09 PM I'm sure barge master, thats what my 85 FWB has in back (I replaced the stock speakers with 2 way Fosgates 6x9). And as far as I know the 80-92 use the same size as I stated earlier. MAYBE if you got a Bose they are a different size but they should not be. barge master 08-19-04, 09:55 PM Man that's wierd. I'm gonna have to pull one out of my 87 parts car and compare. The car I'm thinking of is my 80. It had no speakers in the back and when I put the 6x9s up to it the holes covered about one inch of the speaker all around the diameter. Maybe that's how it's supposed to go. Some meat head had cut and peeled the metal back to make the holes larger. I should have taken pics of some of the crap that was done to the inside of this car. If there is a better example of a hacker trashing a nice car, I haven't seen it. Steeltag 08-21-04, 01:09 PM :) Thanks guys for the info.
Kelly luddyludwick 08-21-04, 05:40 PM Quick question AElayyat,
In your '85, did you put a new head unit in? I want to keep my stock AM/FM/CB head (even though it's pretty crappy...I just want the CB), but it definately needs some better speakers. I hate 4x6's, but oh well...
I'm just wondering if the head has enough power to make a decent pair of speakers (not anything too nice, but you know, Pioneers, Blaupunkt, etc.) sound good.
Thanks,
Bruce
I heard something about 91-92s having speakers in the front doors? Does anyone know about that? Is it a Bose option or something? RBraczyk 08-21-04, 07:31 PM I know all about totalling 94's

1) Yeah I had a Pioneer deh-6500 CD player (50 watts X 4) along with after market speakers (the sound quality is very nice because that head unit pumps out some juice)
2) Don't know much about the stock unit because when I got my car it had an early to mid 90's shitty Sony tape player in it (it was something like 15 or 20 watts X 4), but that thing pushed the factory speakers decently.
If you want to keep the stock head unit but after market speakers I'd go for some low end Pioneers or Kenwoods (I'd reccomend the blue pioneer 4x6 speakers becuase they dont need much power to get them going, I dont know the model number off hand but I had a pair of them and they are not bad.) Look for something that takes 40-50 watts max power or look for something with a low RMS rating (no more than 30 watts). that picture hurts. :crying: RBraczyk 08-22-04, 11:17 AM You have no idea how much it kills me. luddyludwick 08-22-04, 03:12 PM AElayyat,
Thanks for the help...I figured it was good to stick to something with a low RMS...ain't no component amps up in haaar...
Bruce AElayyat 08-23-04, 09:49 PM no problem, glad to be of help lux hauler 08-23-04, 10:04 PM FWIW......my '84 Coupe has 4x6's in the dash and 4x10's in the deck. SMooTh87BRoughAM 08-27-04, 02:51 PM IIRC, my 87 brougham has 6x9's in the back. and 4x6's upfront. havent taken a close look yet, nor actually exposed them to pull them out. thats just what i guessed when i was looking @ them most recently. i plan on replacing them soon though.
btw
whats so diff if you have the bose ed. do you get more speakers? diff sizes? amps? lux hauler 08-27-04, 08:15 PM You can check for speaker location and size at Crutchfield (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-pSUEWWWHrAk/cgi-bin/autoinfo/autoinfo.asp?vehicleid=&vpSt=&ac=&vb=N&vpSt=1&s=0&cc=01&ac=1&lp=). The speakers are very easy to remove (the backs pop out in 30 seconds). To change out all 4 speakers it would take 15 min.
For the Brougham, I am not sure if they add any more speakers with the Bose but there sizes may be the same (4x6 and 6x9) but that system has amps where the delco has it built in. The bottom line with Bose is that they are crap systems and a pain in the ass when you wanna change something them. | |
