I just noticed today after replaceing 2 belts that my harmonic balancer slid back on the crank. She is supercharged so I'm thing this is part of the issue (i'm not sure if the guy that owned it before me had it pinned or not)
So im thinking of getting a new pully and pinning it myself ( i hope that will fix the issue)
SLP Harmonic Balancer/Underdrive Pulley
25% underdrive
LMP Part No.: 006629
Yeah, it's impossible for it to slide towards the motor, unless it was never seated properly to begin with.
lollygagger8 - Really? I haven't had any issues with my SLP balancer. They can't possibly be worse than the stock junk that was on there. I changed the stock pulley twice in 25K miles.
Blackax - What year is your V? I have the belt numbers you'll need when switching to that pulley on an LS2 V. SLP doesn't have that information because the accessory setup is different on the V's and vette's/gto's.
Innovators West does and it does come with slightly smaller pulleys for the alt and power steering but it comes at a price. About 1100 for the entire kit not including the belt and the blower pulley.
If you like the way the car drove then just replace it with a stock pulley or a stock size aftermarket pulley. The balancer it self cannot phisically slide back. On front of the crank there is a sprocket for the timing chain that is a a snug fit and it actually bottoms out on the end of the crank. After the timing chain sprocket is a sleeve that engages the georotor for the oil pump. This sleeve is stacked on timing sprocket. Then the balancer goes on and when you tighten the bolt for the balancer not only are you pulling the balancer down for a press fit for on the crank, you also sandwich the sprocket and the georotor sleeve with the balancer and the crank. If it did indead slide down the crank, you may have serious problems other than the balancer. However, like the others stated, there is an isolation ring that may have given way and let the pulley part of the balancer slide back I the balancer.
I'll look at it again tonight but i'm thinking it was just the pulley that slid back. I'll post up a few pic's if i have some light when i get home ( stupid working 50 miles away from home)
Get an ARP balancer bolt as well. The OEM bolts can only be used once (they stretch to fit). The last owner may have re-used the bolt.
The ARP one is $25 (pricey for a bolt), but you can re-use it. Also you can tell the quality on that thing. It looks like art, and the OEM looks like a zinc galvanized outdoor deck lag bolt.
Ok im having some problems finding a stock replacement.
Does any one know of where i can buy one? I have call around and the cheapest I can find is from a dealer and its 230$ plus tax
