I heard about Blackbear Performance for the first time last week from a technician at a local repair shop. Apparently the company is fairly well known within the GM truck/suv tuning community, but I couldn't find anything about them here in the CTS-V section. From what I've gathered from their site, it seems they offer a mail order tune, similar to W4M, but they send you a data logger and you use it to define the exact characteristics of your car. You send that information to them and they create a tune that is tailored specifically to your car. I like the idea of having a truly "custom" tune and not just a canned tune that "should" work on my car because it's worked on other, similar cars. I certainly don't mean to say that there is anything wrong with W4M tunes, or anyone elses. I know lots of people here have had great luck with them, I was just curious if Blackbear could be another option for us.
we do them for 200$, but i will come out to you, im from gibbstown NJ, but im always up for a drive for a new customer, ill hook a wide band up, do a couple of scans, tune it up and youll be set. if its a stock V can load in my base tune from mine then adjust from there to save us some time. dont hesitate to PM me or call me at 8564707175.
My main concerns with any tune are driveability and reliability. I am not willing to sacrifice any amount of either one in the name of power. I don't expect big gains with a tune. I would hope for better throttle response and improved efficency. We can only get crap 91 octane gas up here in Maine, so having the car tuned for that would be important also. I really like the idea of tuning a second ECU so that I could swap back to my stock one at any time. I am looking for someone who will add a bit of performance to the car without taking anything away.
a tune if done right wont hurt your driveability, your pretty much adding "untapped" power. its there, you just need to get the computer to see it. car manufacturers make all their tunes safe because you have a wide range of factors, you can have the same car-engine-fuel-mods and beable to run 4-5* more of timing in cells, so GM will back their software down to make sure they never have any problems
