: Fluid Change vs Fluid Flush...

Well, this has turned out to be a major dilemma...

I would like to get some new coolant, and new transmission fluid (DEXRON VI) in my car.

It seems like the only thing shops offer is a FLUSH, and as Ranger says, "flushing is for toilets", and I'd have to agree.

Who knows when they clean those machines.

Anyway, I'd just like to know what my options are for getting this done.

Thanks!

Short of doing it yourself, most dealers do an "exchange". An exchange is basically a flush (not reverse flush) with the appropriate fluid. In other words, they pump new fluid in until all the old fluid is expelled. THAT I could live with and you know that they know (or should know) what they are doing.

So it would be ideal to just drain it, and refill it?

Take a look at these two links in regards to coolant and transmission.

This isn't the normal dealership I bring my car to, but I'm sure all GM dealers offer the same.

Coolant: http://www.jimball.com/CoolantExchange.html

Transmission: http://www.jimball.com/TransmissionFluidExchange.html

They offer a coolant drain/refill, as well as a flush.

As far as the transmission goes, it doesn't look like they offer just a drain/refill. Like you said, it's an exchange.

If I were to get the bare minimum for each, would that be plenty sufficient?

Bare minimum should be sufficient.
