I have posted multiple threads on ls1tech, vette forum, here, and some local forums. I might have a way to get my hands on a 454 and wanted to see what you guys thought. Should I keep my current setup or sell the blower/cam and put the 454 in the V? Here is a pic of it's current home.
Forget the blower justin. Get a Fast 92 NOW before they are all bought up, send it to Nitrous outlet for a 2 stage direct port. Spray a 250 shot on the first stage and a 100 on the second stage. That motor will take it alllll day long with a good tune in it!
I already have most of the kit in hand:lildevil::lildevil::lildevil::lildevil::lildevil::lildevil:. Just gotta find a lucky SOB to buy my blower. No one has stepped up yet. The motor was built by Vengance.
How much more power will it put down from what you have now? And do you really need it? Just saying you dont wanna out grow the rest of the drivetrain and start braking things. Power is fun, but only if you can use it.
Good luck with it though.
I have to agree with Twitch... something tells me you are going to need to address the drive train and Diff with that thing... and the balance of the chassis... but that IS one Cool motor!!
It is all in the air as of right now. I do still have all the top secret parts sitting in my kitchen. I am only entertaining the idea if the maggie sells. I do love my setup as of right now. We will see. I have more PM's about the upgraded parts than I do for the maggie. Thanks for the advice today Thomas. It is a big decision and I am open to suggestion.
You would definitely be different and unique among V's with the 454.....But you'll need to dish out another good chunk of change just to be able to use the power.
With a maggie running at, say, 6 psi at sea level, that's like having ~40% more displacement on an LS6 which is like a 480+ cu. in. motor. (That's ignoring the cam's effect, too.) If you do the 454, then you've probably got a few more pounds with it vs a maggied LS6/LS2. Not to mention all the headaches with fitting it in, mating it up to the tranny, moving hoses, vac lines, gauge connections, the PCM, and on and on.
Ooooo! I'm getting dizzy just thinking about it. :bonkers:
^^^There ya go Justin....sell the maggie, forge your bottom end and throw on a whipple with 12+psi......buuuut big power N/A motors are SO sweet. And for the big gains every now and then, throw the juice on it if you so feel inclined.
1) Just cause he puts in a LS-X block, doesn't mean it's staying N/a....just means he'll make more power N/a than he can make with his maggie. Some asked, the motor is currently making 590rwhp on a conservative "break-in" tune.
2) Just cause he puts in a LS-X block, doesn't mean he's not also making us build a custom rear diff setup too.
3) C.i. always wins. Add to it the structural integrity of a LS-X block, and the ability to go 6-bolt heads in the future....The possibilities are BIG.
Big cubes NA > Maggie 112 on small cubes
Not sure what your budget is, but if you just won the Lottery, take a look at the newest offering from Katech:
Why buy a Katech block, when ERL is offering a Tall-deck version of their block for 500c.i. now? It's a genuine GM LS block, not a billet aftermarket block that will get you kicked out of class rules(alot of rules say you must retain a GM block)
Did not know about ERL, or their product. Visited their site, looks like a great vendor, and yet another in Indiana---home of many great engine builders, speed shops, tranny and rear-end specialists.
Good find!
FIND!!!!? hahahaha He has been drooling over a ERL block since I met him.....I've made my decision. Keeping the original plan going. I sent out the gas tank today to LPA for my fuel system upgrade. Tim is running a nice 408 that we are eventually going to work out a deal on for the V.
