Well it says this is the place for the new guys to introduce theirselves, so here I go. Name is Adam. I am 33 and from New Jersey....not far from the Atco drag strip. I recently purchased a 1976 Coupe de Ville with a 500. Hoping to have some fun here on the site, meet some new friends and learn a lot too.
I won't say much more about the car because it said this is the place for non Cadillac discussion. So, let me find the right forum and I will throw up some photos for everyone to enjoy!!!!

I'd recommend using photobucket. You can upload the pics to there and then it generates a code that you can copy and paste into a reply. It also saves you from having to resize your pictures because the forums here can only host a picture that is 800x800.

That '76 is not too shabby! Not perfect but it's going on 35 years old. Enjoy the car, man!

Well, for whoever is reading this post....this will separate my allies from my enemies; the Caddy is being mini-tubbed. My plans are to build a bad azz bracket Caddy. Maybe not the fastest car at the track, but certainly one of the coolest.

Sorry, but what is "mini-tubbed" and "bracket"? I'm assuming the terms have to do with some sort of stock car racing, but I'm not familiar with them. In any case, it's your car, and you can do whatever pleases you with it.

Yes, please enlighten us as to the meaning of "mini-tubed and "bracketed."

Bracket racing is drag racing, and I'm not entirely sure what mini-tubbing is.

I'm kind of intrigued, though. :) That would be a really sweet drag car. People would be like "WTF IS THAT?!"

He'll be on a mission to find out how fast and consistently 5,000lbs can get down the quarter mile.

Sounds good to me.

If nothing else you should be able to fry a tire the entire distance.

I do believe that "mini-tubbing" something is the act of making they rear wheel-wells wider and deeper to accomodate bigger drag tires.

Stingroo

Bigger tires FTW. I support.

Trunk space is for mafioso and quitters!

Even tubbed, he should be able to get a couple of bodies, a shovel and a bag of lime in there. It'll make leaving the scene of the crime fun.

Man....I am having a blast on this site!!!! Let's see, I guess most people would not associate drag racing with a big ol' caddy....that's where I come in! Said in an earlier post, "mini-tubbing" is the process of cutting out the stock rear wheel wells and replacing them with bigger, after market ones. This way you can fit a bigger tire....a drag slick. Now, I would have loved to "full tub" or "back half" the car, but that is not in the budget right now! By doing a mini tub I can still keep the stock rear size and rear seat (for the ladies!) A full tub would require loosing the back seat, going with a narrowed rear, fuel cell....Put it this way, mini tub = $1,000 full tub = $5,000. :bonkers:

It's been a bit slow lately, double posts are common when it does that.

That's pretty interesting. I think mini-tub would be just fine in that case. Should be sweet. :D!

We need pictures when it's done!

Overall not too bad. Scared of what's going on under that vinyl top, though.

V-Eight
03-20-10, 03:37 AM
Yeah, it looks like the vinyl top is what f***ed the car over because the rest of it looks pretty good.

aluv76
03-20-10, 04:37 PM
Yeah I have been hearing that A LOT!!!!:crying: In fact, one of my other hobbies is building freestyle bicycles from the 80's. I posted about my Caddy there and a member said the exact same thing; "I'd be afraid to know what's under that roof."

Oh well, we shall see I guess!

I have no idea what is the point in putting a vynil top on a car? And at the end it results in such rusty messes....
If you like to keep the car for a long time, at some point you need to face the fact and remove the top to repair there, else rust always will continue propagating from under the top to the visible places.

aluv76
03-20-10, 08:01 PM
So very true. Like they say, "rust never sleeps." I plan on having the vinyl removed and replaced, but in black.

Koooop
03-22-10, 06:11 PM
Awesome sled! They all rust at the bottom of the vinyl top like that, to bad. I've been trying to get my hands on a 1975 in Mandarine Orange w/ orange plaid interior for years! That is coolest Coupe DeVille since 1962.

aluv76
03-22-10, 06:43 PM
Yeah I like the early 60's ones too. I saw one at a little lot out in the back. Might have been a 61-62. Guy said it was sold before it even got off the flatbed.
