How do I dig the 3-1/2 inch speakers out the the dash of my 76 coupe deville?

I purchased a chilton cdrom manual but no speaker install removal information. That's a very solid looking dash... i hope there is some way to pop those little corner covers off and avoid a tear down of the whole dash.

This is my second 76 coupe and life is sweet but for the tunes.

Thanks

I haven't done that vintage, but the 60s ones and the 80s ones the top vinyl pad unscrews easily. There should be 2 screws in each dash top def. vent, maybe 1 on each side, I'd look for 1 going verticaly around the speedo, and maybe another vertical one inside the glove box.

The top pad does not have any visible screws other than the side panels on either side with the doors open. There are none in the defroster vents. The whole assembly is loose but will not come out of there.

This is a nasty project though I was able to dig the passenger speaker out though the glove compartment box but I am skunked on the driver side without removing the top pad.

Any help from someone with this expereince would be greatly appreciated or if someone has a decent 76 manual that accurately describes the removal proceedure preferrably with some pictures of the proceedure.

I would also not recommend the Chilton CDRom repair manual. Its worthless.

Thanks,

Martin

Sorry it wasn't as easy as I made it sound. If it's loose try to zero in on the area where it's still holding. There has to be something there. They like to hide screws inside the a/c vents, up in the corners, you need a small flashlight to see them

I've got a lot of pieces off and well into a complete teardown.~!@#$%^

Does anyone have an exploded dash view in a comprehensive shop manual?

Getting an email attachment file of an exploded dash view would really be nice at this point.

Thanks

The CDRom Chilton is a bad investment.

The mystery was solved for 40 cents worth of copying at the public library.

The key to removing the dash in a 76 Cadillac Coupe Deville is to remove the AC vent louvers on the front of the dash. Hidden in behind three of those you will find three screws and when those are removed you got the whole dash in you lap!!!

Trickly little manuver to remove the swivel grills. A sharp flat screw driver lets you pull the keepers back but they come out only when rotated upwards.

There you have it folks now you can enjoy fantastic stero quad sound from your new 3.5 inch Kickers.

Makes all the difference in the world. What's a Caddy ride with out Caddy sound?

I have to do the exact same operation with my 73. I need to replace my front speaks. Do you think removing the dash would be the same procedure?
