I got my registration bill yesterday.. freakin $601!!!

Almost double what it was last year. How is that legal?? I thought it's supposed to go lower as it gets older??

Anyone else get a bill this high? Its gotta be a mistake! Any suggestions how I might be able to talk this down? I'm guessing goin to the dmv is a waste of time.

CRAP!!

The problem is that some years ago when they "lowered" the registration fees, they didn't do it by actually lowering the registration fees. What they did was add a "VLF offset" to refund back a portion of the vehicle license fees.

Now that the budget has gone to hell (again), they removed the VLF Offset and that effectively rolled the fees back to the previous level.

Man, if it weren't for the weather ...

Ca raised the VLF fee from .65 of the value to 1.15 of the value, nearly doubling your registraion fees. It is the biggest rip off. Time to fire all the state reps and start new.

After paying California fees (& taxes) for 40+ years on numerous cars, including 6 STS's & one Escalade, it's kind of nice to see my bill for $78 each year on my 09 Escalade here in Illinois :stirpot:

I think that is only good for 3 months. Hey, this is California. I might as well drive the truck down a cliff rather than paying the registration when the bill comes.

Yep, thanks to the excellent shape of Kaliforniaaa's economy, my renewal for the Escalade is now $600s, and my S is even worse, $800s. Don't remember the exact number, it's there.

At least they didn't repeal the prop 13, I may as well go broke if they do it.

My '08 CTS ($49k) went 43% up without an explanation.

2008: $355
2009: $347
2010: $495

At least here, in this forum, somebody knows about the 0.65 to 1.15 WTF or whatever they called.

I spent one hour at the DMV (with a pre-registration) and they couldn't give me a logical reason (I spoke with a couple of supervisors there in Glendale, CA office). They had no clue at all.

I'm wondering how legal it is?

It's not about the amount but the percentage.

The governator passed a bill mandating furlows for state employees and doubling the registration- among other things. It is legal and it sucks...makes you wanna move to AZ...my fam currently owns a 72 Elky,78 Bronco,91 F350,95 bronco,99 C5,01 Excursion,03 Titan, and 05 Magnum. We got to witness the doubling of the registraion first-hand. Our AAA advisor knows us personally ;P

Just wait till this guy in office cleans out your paycheck next year .... Registrations will be the least of our problems.
