I say go anyhting 96+. they were then OBDII and the setup of the interior makes more sense. any 92-95, you have to reach around the steering wheel to adjust the climate or use the buttons for the DIC.

In 96 they put everything int he middle... not to mention the Gauges look cooler

yeah, but they have the 275 HP, 300 ft lb motor. the touring coupe has a 300 HP, 295 ft lb motor, and better get-up-and-go gearing.

The 2000 model had front massaging, heated seats...... Cant beat that with anything!

The touring coupe isnt really that much better, but it does have some extra gizmos and some more wood trim and different seats..... it all depends on what you like.....

The engines are really similar (their the same minus the cams), and speed wise they are about the same to drive......

I have driven a 2000 Eldorado but i didnt notice any massaging seats but it did have lumbar support Does anybody know the difference between the 2002 touring coupe and the 2002 Collectors Series

The collectors series is a limited edition (i think they were the last ones made), and comes with a plaque and a dash emblem (number made).......

And the massaging seats were a special option......

Do you think a 97 with 103981 miles for 7900 is a good deal

I would look for one that was a "one owner" and Lady driven that has all the service records with it. Read up on the Northstar engine and check out all the posts about the cars on this Forum before you decide > you might end up changing your mind :spin:

That IS a good deal for a '97.. The collectors editions came in different colors as well.

Check out my old '95 in my signature.. I loved that car. Yes, if I were to buy another, I'd look for a '96 or newer - BUT - there's really nothing wrong with the '95.. First year of the newer look...

Welcome aboard, EvilDenny! Thanks for signing up!

well I went to look at the 97 eldorado First thing I noticed is how ugly the color is it was green ewwww i wouldnt of minded because it was a good deal. But when I asked for service records they looked at me like I had 50 heads. Of cource they said that they didnt have it so then I asked for a Carfax they said that they dont provide carfax. So I went for a test drive it drove to eldorados standards but since im not a mechanic I dont know what to look for. I think im gonna keep on looking Can anybody tell me what to look for while im test driveing it and while im under the hood.

Somewhere I posted a lot of things to look for (do a search), but here are some things to look for..... If they dont provide a carfax, say forget it....... I have a feeling they will change their mind.....

BEFORE YOU DRIVE
Just walk around and look at it...... if the body panels dont line up, that means that it was wrecked and it was fixed cheaply...... Check the tires.......

Open the hood, and check the oil..... The oil level will be easier to read when its cold....... It should be a golden color, and if its black, then that means it could be neglected....... Open the cap on the radiator, and make sure that the coolant is a clear, green color (if its before 96, otherwise it will be an orange)...... A lot can be told by looking at simple things.... A good thing to check (and should be reflective of its maintenance) would be the air filter..... If its fairly clean (just normal dirt, and not too bad), ie not huge gobs of gooey stuff, then it was probably maintained fine..... If its nasty, walk away...... If people arent going to bother replacing the $4 air filter, chances are they arent going to do anything else........

Driving- Make sure you try the radio, but leave it off for the drive...... Make sure that it gets to operating temp, but doesnt get too hot, and doest stay too cold (northstars run over 200, about 220 to be exact)..... Make sure the transmission shifts smoothly...... Be sure to try ALL buttons, switches, knobs, etc......

WHEN YOU ARE DONE

Leave the engine running, and pull the dipstick to the tranny fluid....... The fluid should be pink, and should not have any sort of burnt smell, or any little fragments in it...... Turn off the car, and make sure there is not any sort of burning smell just after it was shut off...... Get under the car (if you can) and make sure there is nothing leaking (except the AC water), and turn the steering wheel to each side all the way, and make sure the CV boots arent cracked........

There is more, but that should give you a start.....

Thanks elwesso, I dont think im gonna buy that car it doesnt seem right
to me and those car dealers were *******s. But what can you expect from cardealers. I heard form a friend of mine that after the test drive that I should take off the oil cap, Too see if any steam or smoke comes out and too look on the oil cap for a white substance. Is that true?

It's a fact that once oil goes into a motor, and the color darkens to almost black, if not black.

Maybe on an iron block, but it shouldnt on an aluminum block..... My oil is still golden (turning, though) after 2500 miles........

What kind of oil is it? That's what my auto teacher told me about oil. He owned a shop for like 15-20 years, so he's been around all types of cars and engines.

elwesso

To be completely honest, I dont know...... I know its valvoline, and i think its 5w30 or 10w30...... Beyond that, I cant tell you.... We have been going to the same independent shop for over 25 years (or at least my parents have), and they just put in the oil.......

I heard form a friend of mine that after the test drive that I should take off the oil cap, Too see if any steam or smoke comes out and too look on the oil cap for a white substance. Is that true?

That's good advice. When coolant mixes into the engine oil, it emulsifies & looks like a chocolate milkshake. If you see that, put the cap back on, thank the seller for his/her time, walk away and don't go back. Check the dipstick, too.

Expensive problems looking for a sucker...

Thanks Everybody for the help now im looking into the Seville and seeing if I like that im just seeing which car I like the best. We will see tomorow when I go for a test drive. Is there anything I should know about the seville

elwesso
07-21-03, 11:57 PM
Sevilles/eldorados/devilles/ are all the same when it comes to looking for things..... These are things that you should look at EVERY used car before consideration of purchase......

But, as far as seville specific, there really isnt much, just make sure there isnt a MIL (malfunction indicator light), and you may just go and pull the codes..... really easy......
