Hey guys! My Cat seems to be guzzling down engine oil. My engine oil cooler was replaced about a 2 months ago. Last week my low on oil light came, put a quart in measured dip stick-full. Okay now when I run my Cat the PSI is lower than normal...What is normal? I appreciate your help with this...

Hmm... can you see any visible leaks around the engine compartment and on the ground? Tip is to lay cardboard unerneath overnight and see what dropped where.

Oil pressure... when did you "look at it" when it was fully warmed up or cold?

Im going to lay the cardboard out tonight..When Im running below 35mph it drops a little lower than normal(but normally I would swear it was at normal)...at about 60+ its all the way up... One more thing how many quarts of oil does a Cat need? I always have to put in 6, is this right?..thanks JefferyG

Doh i forgot, if its the oil cooler *Which it shouldnt be since its been replaced* check your coolant for mis-colouration and under the oil cap for a milky substance. And yes, oil change with new filter 6 quarts

Ok, so maybe I took your advise too an extreme...well the psi level on my cat was near red so ..umm,...I added um oil...uh 4 quarts of oil. One mile later Im looking in the rearview thinking people are checking out that goodlookin driver in that caddy..with a BIG A$$ cloud of smoke coming out the exhaust. So I took it in for a seal leak....picked up, ran the freeway POUF..Im an smog emissions worst nightmare...took it back this morning...mecanic's debating on issue...

Ouch...

One thing you dont do, is add oil when you have low oil pressure... adding more than what was probably an already good level into the sump, is not good. Guess its too late.

Im sorry about your current condition, i bet that wasnt good for the o2 sensors.

Thanks for all your help JeffreyG..I got my car back yesterday..got an oil change, fixed a seal for 80 bucks and it's running smoothly.-so far. What about the o2 sensors? Should I be worried?
