View Full Version : Colant leaking from drain tube over trans.

OK newbie here. I have coolant coming from what appars to be a drain tube above the transmission. No water in the cabin of the vehicle. Any help is much appriciated!

If it's really the vent tube that isn't hooked up to anything then it sounds like your tranny cooler inside the radiator is busted and is allowing coolant into the tranny. But if that was the case it would take a lot of coolant to make it come out the vent tube and I highly doubt your transmission would do anywhere operating on coolant instead of ATF.
Hopefully that is not the case and it's a different hose you are talking about. Can you take a picture? If it's not the vent tube, then it's supposed to be connected to something on both ends ...

If the leak is more on the passenger side back by the firewll and dripping on the trans, chance are it's the Heater Control Valve. Common problem in Cateras. I should have bought a caseload of them when we bought our '97 new.
