: Should I put the mongo RR grill on her . . . .

Kind of divided about doing this mod . . .

Part of me likes the stock front end appearence on my 1991 Brougham D'Elegance . . .

If you can't tell from the picture, the stock grill is very slightly tilted inwards. The fiberglass piece between the headlight and grill on the drivers side has a crack. Its not really noticeable until you get about 1 foot from the car and really look for it.

Something has hit the front of the car, and the repair is less than excellent by my standards.

Anyways, I really like the look of some of these aftermarket grills. Of course I'd go all chrome, I hate gold trim. Going to keep the stock Cadillac hood ornament, since I replaced it last year due to the factory one fading out.

This is how she sits right now . . . .

This is an example of the grill I'm considering:

I think that looks really hot IMO, who makes grills like this for our old Cadillacs??? Vogue and E&G are the two top makers that come first to mind. Also, my car is navy blue on navy blue leather, I'm a pretty armature photographer and haven't figured out how to make the car look blue instead of black.

I had it installed on my '96 FWB and really made a big difference hence . However, your grill style is already looking like Rolls Royce . If I had an egg crate grill like '88 model year then I would go for it , it's for sure :)

01-21-10, 08:03 AM
Nooooooooooooooooooo so gross. Booooo.

01-21-10, 08:38 AM
NOOOOOOOO. Your car is GORGEOUS the way it is. If you're not happy with the tilted grill, then fix it. If I find out that you've wrecked your car by adding some crappy looking pimp-tastic grill that looks like a bank building, I will hunt you down and slap you upside the head. LOL.

01-21-10, 09:11 AM
don't do it mang

01-21-10, 09:23 AM
Nope. Nope no way. Putting a Rolls Royce grille on anything but a Rolls is the ultimate sign of poseur. Just be happy with the Brougham as it is, why change it?

BTW, your car is gorgeous!

I have one on mine, it looks out of place unless you have big rims to go with it. imo. But even with the rims, its pushing it.
They are just a tad too tall and weigh alot so a firm install is key. They are 600 bucks new and not put together as good as 600 bucks
should be. Both of mine need repair. Overall...the look, value, and quality just dont match up.

I've seen the E&G grills in parking lots and they never look as good as they do in the pictures. The header panel is way too wide and the slats are too close together. Plus the fact that is looks like (and is) gaudy after market crap and not OEM, makes the car look cheap.

I personally think the 1980 grills with the 4 horizontal cross beams would look great on a '90+. If there was something wrong with my grill that's what I'd replace it with.

As opposed to

The only thing I don't like about the '80 grills is that the slats are straight, where on the '89+ grills, they are angled. Given two crap grills and a little time and I might be tempted to play doctor and make a hybrid four horizontal cross beam grill with angled vertical slats.

No way ! Your car looks great like it is.

01-21-10, 03:39 PM
I like the look of the E&G grille. They are not made to the standards of a RR grille but they're not that bad. It will make your car look different from the rest and if you're looking to march to your own drumbeat then go for it! You can always take it off if you hate it and sell it on eBay. If you don't try the grille on your car you'll never know if it tickles you or not. By the way, NICE CAR!!! :)

01-21-10, 04:01 PM
^How will it make his car look different. Half the people who have Cadillac RWD's have E&G shit and a "Slab sittin 24s."

If you want the car to look different, you have to go to this extreme:

01-21-10, 04:06 PM
That is a one of a kind. :) Here is something I get turned on by. Notice it's even yellow AND has the E&G grille! NO ONE else will have one of these! NO ONE!!! :) :) :)

Nuthin say trashy like a beaten up old car (that was never good lookin to begin wit), that has a $600 after market upgrade on it. The car has a laundry list of notable electrical, paint, and mechanical problems, and the list ends with that $600 grill being cracked bad enough that it might need to be replaced.

There used be some punk kid that drove a Gutless around Rogers OH. The car was one sorry assed excused for a car, and he never put any money into it. One day, he found one wire wheel rim somewhere and payed $200 for it. So he had three steel wheels and one wire rim. The car looked like shit and barely ran, but that one rim looked good and thats all he cared about.

When I was in college one of my buddies had a hand me down 82 Cimarron that was formerly his Mom's - complete with E&G grille, continental kit on the back, vinyl top. People really pimped out the Cimarrons back then similar to some of the Cateras which came along next. Nearly every Cadillac here in the sunshine state still gets a simcon roof plastered on it, chrome wheel well trims, Vogues, chrome on the door pillars, E&G grille of some variety, and more and more.

Aron, I say pop the biggie grille on the Brougham and live a little! Get some Vogues too - they'll look FAB with those wire wheels and liven up your car. :) It is your car so you'll know what pleases your eye. :)

I have NEVER seen a set of Vogues on a car in Florida. Ever. E&G Grilles on nearly anything though.

I liked mine, but I took it off when I put the '90 front end on. Imo it's another clash, the "euro" (I hate that term) style of the newer brougham against the classic rolls look. Little advice, if you decide to try it out, they tend to scratch the header around the edge of the grill. You can help by using pep-boys stick on chrome door trim on the edge of the classic grill. It's hardly noticeable, just don't get crazy and put it up the doors and trunk! If you like it, do it.

01-21-10, 06:52 PM
haha, nice hood ornament

Are you paying attention? :) I'm looking out the window at the parking area for the condo building next door where there are two new DTS's wearing vogues plus all the other jewelry. One is particularly attractive in all black with black windows, chrome grille, chrome wheel trims, chrome pillar trim, and Vogues. Cadillacs are big business around here and the fancy local Cadillac dealer here in our small city even has a special Vogue customizing area. I even see Escalades and CTS's with Vogue tires every day! I suspect if you're not seeing Caddies all Vogued up where you are that the Cadillac dealer in your area is on the list of dealerships to be closed since they apparently may not be very creative by cashing in selling the highly profitable extras. We have pretty big bling in this area considering how conservative it is. I see the same in the Tampa area and down in Naples/Ft. Myers and also on the other side in Ft. Lauderdale when I visit there. Open your eyes and you shall see-eth Vogues! (Religious overtones for you and Craig.) :)

No disrespect, but that grill looks more like something you would find on a car roaming around a post apocalyptic wasteland, than what belongs on a luxury sedan.

Lol, I love it! I wish it had a machine gun on the roof! That car's just for fun. Keep on nice and one rough. Bad part is that was back when it looked half decent, it's just a $200 container for the 472 until something better comes along.

01-22-10, 02:46 AM
Changed my mind, no pimpastic grill on my car. Its already faboulous enough the way it is. I think I'm going to take the grill off and see why it isn't lining up right, might be able to put some shims on the bolts and get it looking better.

01-22-10, 08:55 AM
Aron, with that grill, you either hate it or kinda like it. I kinda like mine but I would trade it for a nice eggcrate. And it did scratch up my header panel. It wouldnt look too bad on your car because its a dark color but I think they stick up too high, thats what gives it the massive look. If they were an inch or two shorter, they would be right imo.

it's just a $200 container for the 472 until something better comes along.

Do you have a 472 in that car?

01-22-10, 10:02 AM
Stop it Bro-ham, you're giving me post traumatic stress disorder!!!!

01-22-10, 04:20 PM
Honestly I love the E&G grills. I think they are over the top, but that is what are Big Caddie's are! The more chrome the better, although stock does look great too . But I like them I picked one up for my triple black 91 for $150 on ebay. And i want one for my 93.
Go for it, change if you don't like it.:)

01-22-10, 05:58 PM
I drove an '84 Cimarron once. Piece of shit.

01-22-10, 08:35 PM
Of course a Cimarron is a bad car. But it IS a Cadillac. And I love the Cadillac touches on the Cavalier. I'd have one just for fun! I'd take a plain one though. :)

I agree that Cadillacs are funn and the more individualized you can make them the better! Do your car the way you want to do it and don't ask if you should do it - trust your inner voice and do what your heart tells you to! :) :) :)

Do you have a 472 in that car?

Absolutely. 1970. Swapped the rear out with an '81 v6's to get the 3.23 ratio and a bunch of other stuff done to the motor.
