View Full Version : Part numbers for passive shocks/struts?? I'm looking to do the passive replacement on my 1997 STS but can't find any auto parts store that can cross reference the originals with new passive ones.
I guess what I'm saying is, can I go to Pep Boys and pick up a Monroe shock/strut and do this myself??
Any help would be great. elwesso 08-08-04, 01:54 PM Check out the boston suspension setup and the others that the forum recommends...... I understand all of the boston suspension and alternatives. I've looked at those and I'm considering them.
What I'd really like to know is whether or not I can walk into an auto parts store and find the same struts/shocks, purchase them and put them on my car myself. The power resister they offer to override the computer can be purchased seperately and for much less. toofitt 08-08-04, 08:52 PM Hi:
I bought 2 kits from Boston Suspension I did a bunch of research on this issue, the parts are made for them by Monroe or Gabriel. If it was as easy as walking into a parts store there would be thousands of people doing this, I have never seen one person say you can find a part that will go on. So take it for what it is worth, I am very happy 500.00 for all 4 wheels you can't beat that!!
TOM darylmex 08-15-04, 10:12 AM If there are shocks for strut-masters then they are there. I'll never pay that kind of money for a shock. I can buy the fronts for 43.00. It's just a matter of the super secret part #. I WILL FIND IT. :want: slingblade 09-14-04, 11:52 AM Try Monroe 71801 and 71854 https://www.rockauto.com/ is a great site for part # lookups.
Does anyone know if the Monroe 71801 (for the rears) have air connections for ride hight? I'm a little bit concerned about the hight that the rear of the car will sit at with them installed as I hate the look of a car dragging its ass.
-jadz Hey Guys,
I'd like to know the part numbers of a suitable (read: good quality, not bottom feeder cheap) rear passive struts for the 1995 base Deville WITH air-leveling capability as well. I've got the fronts covered with the AC/Delco passive replacements that were made for this application to replace the bogus OE active struts, funny thing is GM has not made a replacement for the rears, and 3 auto parts stores I deal with give me blank stares when I ask for a suitable Monroe or Gabriel passive with auto leveling.
I think the Boston and Strutmaster kits are probably OK, but they are pricey, and I've already modded my electronics with the relay bypass for the "service ride control" message when I did the front suspension so I don't need their specially made resistor packs, which seem to be questionable anyway based on some comments I've seen here.
Anybody know the part #'s I should look for?
Thanks in advance for any input!
Kevin http://www.monroe.com/catalog_lookup/E_Catalog/catalog.aspx?sec=ocl&page=ocl_ecatalog&VG=0&MK=6&MDL=103&YR=1995&LST=380 ? jadz,
Hey, thanks! I don't know why the autoparts suppliers seem to choke on this! If I'd known these were standard stock items for Monroe, I'd have searched their site already. I just figured there was something special about this application given the fact that the parts suppliers I dealt with all seemed clueless. Guess I place too much faith in the good ol' boys at the counter <chuckle>.
Thanks again!
Kevin Looks like those monroe numbers are for a 95 - those will NOT fit on a 97. These will:
LF #22064723
RF #22064724

Will the parts you just mentioned for the 97 Seville also fit my 94 STS? (LF #22064723, RF #22064724) Also, any for the back-(I'm assuming these are for left and right fronts)
I'm planning on using your info that you post all over the place for people, if I don't go with Boston or one of the other companies that CLAIM to cure the service ride message. (I may be using you're kit even if I do go with Boston, I see a lot of people who their little resistor didn't work for!) In fact, if I can find "regularly priced" struts that fit front and back, I'll buy them and use your info to quash the message! Forget spending $500+ for Boston's Monroe/Gabriel struts with $10 of machine shop work and $5 worth of Radio Shack! I'll tell you too, it's cool how you make the info you figured out available for everyone. Like you have also mentioned, it looks as if people have copied it, to make another few bucks off of us Caddy lovers. Thanks for your help!:coolgleam I am pretty sure that they will not fit. I have done no searching for rear shock so I will be of no help there.
My best guess for older than 97 is the 580-2 part number. I use AcDelco.com and rockauto.com to search for part of cars with the same/similar years with the same construction to find passive units.
Here are some results from a quick search
Looks like the monroe parts are listed for a 93
Also a 580-8 for a 93, still spendy though, for the rear maybe?
The 580-2 (pack of two) is listed for the 93 sls and for the 94 deville, I believe this is the best bet for the fronts. $170 for both struts - I had accidently bought these when attempting the replacement of my struts.
Basically i think the 93-95 suspension setups were pretty much the same. I look around for those caddies.
I would be happy to hear a success (or failure) story from someone performing the substitution on a pre 97. I could then add the info to my web page.
I know that there is a reference to my how-to on the caddyinfo page, but it seems that few actually find my page when searching for info. Google seems to still return it to, i guess "word of mouth" is still the best method. Hey Guys,

... is the reason for the 95 part #'s. 91TexasSeville 01-23-05, 11:04 AM https://www.rockauto.com/ is a great site for part # lookups.

In short YES! The 71801 rear struts DO HAVE the air connectors. |
