View Full Version : Pls help new Caddie owner weird electrical issues smooth3d 08-08-04, 06:18 AM I hope you fine folks can help me out. I purchase a 94 sedan Deville 3 weeks ago . Today I start her up and my fuel gauge is blicking E, my fuel milage says Lo, none of my automatic acc. work such auto locking doors whem I put it in drive.
My auto headlamps wont come on, when I turn them on man. my chim keeps chiming, and my ac wont blow cold. This all happend when I went to the store. When I went in everything was working fine, when I came back out and started her up it started this. any sugg. about what in the world happened?
She still drives fine. I looked around before I posted . Could it be a bcm issue? :banghead:
P.S. Ive tried unhooking the batt. for about 5 mins hoping that would help. the only things that started working was the truck release and fuel door release, everything else is still happaning pls help. Hotrodelectric 08-08-04, 02:55 PM Did you notice anything weird before all this- and I mean anything (well, relating to your car  )? I'm not entirely sure, but I think your car can do a BCM diagnostic. Try that, and make sure all the fuses and body grounds are good first. There are others here who know this car a lot better than I do- hopefully they'll jump in. smooth3d 08-08-04, 03:53 PM no nothing, it just started all of a sudden. :crying: chuckdobbins 08-08-04, 06:45 PM im gonna go with hotrod and vote blown fuse smooth3d 08-09-04, 05:21 AM I've looked at the fuses under the hood and in the truck, maybe I missed something, Does the bcm have a fuse? If so where? Would a bad bcm affect my fuel reading? Hotrodelectric 08-09-04, 01:04 PM The BCM likely does have a fuse(s), just labled under another name. I'm not sure what that will be. Now, remember what I said- fuses and grounds.
I offer that as a place to start looking, because I absolutely despise blaming the computer first. Also, pull up any BCM codes you can first- that will give you at least some of the clues you need to make an intelligent repair. I think it's switch on the ignition, engine off, and then depress at the same time the off and warmer buttons at the HVAC. You use the fan speed buttons to scroll through. All that said, yes, I think a malfunctioning BCM can cause fuel gauge problems. BIGWHITE 08-09-04, 02:56 PM I have had the exact same problem on the exact same model 94 deville. You defininately have a blown fuse it's a 10 amp under the hood on the driver's side fender well. All of the things you are mentioning are linked to that one 10 amp fuse.
Good luck, hopefully a cheap fix
BW barge master 08-09-04, 09:59 PM It's probably like a needle in a haystack, but look also at any grounds, esp. to the body. Just a bad eyelet connection can cause all sorts of freaky things to happen. smooth3d 08-10-04, 03:55 AM Well I check all the fuses, I was desperate could not find a single fuse blown, broke down and took her to the caddie dealorship, I was quoted $90, even the service manager checked all the fuses, and could not find any blown, then he said there are some more fuses under the actual fuse box under the hood, they had my car about a hour, it was a blown fuse, a $2.22 part , $41 in laber, 4.95 disposal fee. all that over 1 fuse. Gawd!!!!! BIGWHITE 08-10-04, 12:00 PM I'm glad to hear it was only a fuse, too bad the dealer wasn't more understanding. I'm no expert but I think they are called maxi fuses and are under that big suare plastic thingy that the regular fuse box sits next to.
BW smooth3d 08-10-04, 04:16 PM That's what he called it a maxi fuse, I like my caddie but hate gm "make money" engineering. It seems like they make things that if it break you have to take it to them if you dont know its there. It's not in the owners manual. All the other fuses are in it but not these. BIGWHITE 08-10-04, 04:34 PM something to think about is your motor mounts, I had to replace one that had worn out, and found out that the reason I was blowing fuses was a grounding short related to the motor mount. It seems the motor mount is a key place to run a ground to. After replacing the mount and plugging in a new fuse, I got my gas gage, twilight lights and all that back. Wanna hear something funny? When this first started happening, I used the fuel used display to estimate how much gas I had left, which was ok in the daytime. As soon as I turned on my headlights the chime module would chime continuously (all on the same circuit). My answer for a short term fix? Rip out the chime module of course, which works great, until you forget your lights on and have to beg someone to boost you!
I guess the moral of the story is: the chime is there for good reason.
