: Wow. My dad has his 07 Denali XL painted flat black...

http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p244/DOMP56/63ebc0bc.jpg

the grille is from eBay, it was gloss black, now it is flat. The headlights are from eBay too, they look awesome, but they are worse than a solar flash light at night. I want him to Joey mod his oem lights, but he won't. All of the chrome was taken off, he installed black door handles and even had the roof rail ends painted flat.
Those are 24's

The only thing that would look better would be an ESV done the same way!

CADDYFAT
12-12-09, 11:15 PM
His other mods are headers, k and n cold air induction, superchips, cat back exhaust with middle resonator delete with true duals and a Escalade rear brake light on the top of the tailgate. Yes it can be done, the dealerships don't like doing it, but it's a simple bolt on. He took off his running boards and installed a side body kit. It looks clean. His rear end went out because he always drives in tow mode manual, warranty did replace his rear end. He was lucky! They didn't say anything about the headers or superchips.
It is a lot faster than my ESV...

Why would he always drive in tow mode? That's just stupid.

Why would he always drive in tow mode? That's just stupid.

It wasn't the tow mode that killed his rear end. The manual even states that you can drive in tow mode if you want and it won't damage the truck, but it may (read: will) impact the fuel mileage.

And yeah, no point in leaving it on all the time.

Not the point of the post, but... It is personal preference. Tow turns over drive off and with the superchips takes each gear to redline. Driver preference for more responsive driving.

Saying that something is Stupid is not a take!

While that appears to be a nice job, I don't appreciate the flat paint fad for cars. I like my cars shiny. Some guy on the Lexus forum wrapped his white LS430 in flat white vinyl. He figured he would probably need to remove the wrap when he sells the car.

One of my first cars was an '86 Volvo sedan that I also wanted to paint flat black and put red pinstripe flames and copper wheels and chrome dog-dish hubcaps on:

Matte black is VERY hard to do right because you're going for both sheen and shine, not just flat. I dont think this Denali is the best example.

I agree, i was trying to figure what it was exactly i was feeling and you nailed it. Also the gaping on the front bumper and the hood just looks awful. is that and after market front? or are they normaly that poorly gaped.

The only logical reason for painting a car with a flat paint is that it's been in a big wreck and there are a lot of ripples in the body panels. I suppose next thing he'll glue shag carpet all over it.

This is just a shot in the dark, but you haven't actually seen the Bentley live have you? It just looks like ass in person and it's going to take $20,000 to fix it and it'll always be a repaint. This isn't even as desirable as one of the Bhagwan Rajneesh cars.

I saw the CLS somewhere, it looks stupid. I expect to see it at the local high school in the parking lot soon.

The Lambo could look tuff, someone did that to a Ruf years ago and it did look wicked.

But come on! The Soccer mom denali? :ack: Maybe that's the only thing left from the divorce and it was his way of getting even!

This demonstrates my point. To do flat black, it has to be a careful balance between sheen and shine. You CANT just make it completely primer flat, otherwise it looks like an incomplete paint job. It also has to be a hot looking car to begin with to pull it off, like the one above.

What it looks like is a botched job with a paint gun where the paint didn't flow out.

That's what is wrong. It still needs that subtle shine.
