: New Track Shoes and stripes

I had been looking around at what tire/wheel combinations would work for the new V. I was able to work with Discount Tire's local rep and Falken's rep to come up with a good combination that I will try out this weekend on the track.

With a very snug/close fit, the new package seems to be able to clear the rotors and other running gear with about 1/8" clearance. This necessitates placing the wheel weights on the outer lip. Not a good look for every day, but these new shoes are only for track days. I have the original wheels with new tires for around town.

While we were fitting the wheels, we also did a subtle stripe kit for the car. I'm not sure it is a long term look, but it is very subtle, and different.

Wheels - MB Drifter 18 x 8.5" 40gbm, front 18 x 9.5" rear 49gbm no spacers needed
Track tires - Falken Azenis RT-615 255/45-18 front, 295/40-18 rear (these have the necessary load requirements for a heavy car on the track)
Everyday tires mounted on polished Cad V wheels - Mich Pilot Sport AS plus 255/40ZR-19 Front, Mich Pilot Sport AS plus Run Flats 285/35R19 rear

Stripes look pretty good. They need to subtle on such a high-class car. I don't know about the RT-615s on the track. trukk had issues with delamination(??) and a car as heavy as the V2 I'd be a little leery of.

Make sure to get plenty of feedback to us...

Don't look bad at all, especially for Track shoes

When are you going to paint those calipers gold ? ;)

Man, I really hate those wheels....sorry!! No offense!

Diameter is definitely too small for this car. 19's are the smallest I'd go. I'm not sure if you were looking for something to use on the track and to reduce weight, or wanted something fast. But that size needs to go.

Stripe kit....Doesn't seem bad. I'd have to see a better shot or in person to really judge though.

Have fun looking pretty at the track while the guys who know better drive circles around you...

Hey Silver-V- how much were the wheels and are they available now to anyone? The rears look great for drags. Are they available in any wider sizes?

Size is best for track tires..this is why the smaller diameter.

Now if we're talking the street and aesthetics..19"-20" are the best. IMHO. :rant2:

The wheels were about $180 apiece. Work with your local Discount Tire rep. He should be able to look up the offsets and widths that are available.

Just be aware, the front rotors only clear by about 1/16". on the back, you should be able to fit up to a 10" to 10 1/2" rear with a little more offset.

We don't have Discount Tire in the northeast. But that's nice and cheap. I would only be getting rears anyway...

I never thought anyone could get 18"-ers on our cars. Nice job and let us know how you do at the drag strip.

Kinda look like Impala SS wheels - and those were 17's! Actually, I had mine powdered coated with black centers just like that back in the day.

Had the MB Drifter rims on my 2005 STS. I think they look ok on the CTS :)

What part of "track wheels" didn't you understand? :hmm: Function is what he was after and he achieved it. So, go pick up your wash mit and towel and get to waxin' because you obviously just dont get it! :thepan:

I saw the stripes in person and they look subtle and make the car pop just a bit more than the next guys black V. It's not in your face at all. Now, he needs to pony up and get the carbon panels and quit driving through the mud! :histeric:

See ya!

Funny how people don't read the whole post and think those are your new show wheels. :thepan:

I think the stripes look great. Let us know how the car feels on the track with the new wheel/tire combo.

The stripes are suprisingly good looking! I was ready to throw up when I saw stripes mentioned, but after seeing the photos, I have to commend you on this one.

The tires were really good and sticky, even at 35 - 50 degrees. I had 2 days at Motorsports Ranch in Cresson TX, and 2 more days at Eagles Canyon where I shredded a brake pad and Rotor. The Falkens are a good combo on this car. The second set of wheels and tires allows me to change them out to the Pilot Sport A/S when I get home, and have no issues with rain. The extra benefit is - it looks good with the factory wheels polished up and looking like a regular non-tracked Cadillac around town.

I had another local track driver who does stripping on the side, create the pattern and put them on. He has several patterns for the local Corvette guys, and he wanted to try it on a Cadillac once. The vinyl is 7 year 3M exterior in flat black. He now has the die/pattern set, and can cut them for you quickly.

If you are interested, send me a PM.

He even cut me some "V" logos for the pit cart and my helmet.

Discount tires told me "We have no 19" wheels that fits your CTS-V"... Do you have a local contact I could call and ask him if he could find me some "cheap" 19" winter wheels. I don't really care how they look, we get snow almost everyday here for the last 2-3 weeks (Québec).

You may have encountered a Discount Tire guy who didn't want to take the time to look up wheels that aren't in their computer. Try the store manager at:

8700 Ohio Drive
Plano, TX 75024
(972) 377-8242

or - www.tirerack.com - They usually are knowledgeable enough to help you out. I am not sure they can help you in Canada, but they could at least find a wheel.

I'll give them a call soon. I was wondering about a group buy, but it's hard to get cheaper prices, so...

I like the stripes! Where'd you get them? I would like something similar for mine, but perhaps in a charcoal so they are a little more pronounced. What do you suggest?

Talk to the guy who did my stripes, he can help you out -

www.hybrid accents.com - Ryan Nicol is my contact. He is a great guy and he really helped set up the stripes to be subtle, but different. Parked next to other Black V's it shows up, but on the road you notice something is different, but not in your face. He is located in Plano TX, and you can give him a call to see what he can do for your car. He has the pattern from my car already

BJS,

You going to try to combine a Behe visit and the V Day at Summit Point? Maybe we can organize a Behe open house or a road trip out Skyline Drive or somewhere nearby for V1s and V2s....

I'm scheduled to drop the V off at Behe next month. But if you guys do a drive this spring, I'd be down if the schedule was clear...

Let us know when, at least we can do a group get together if the weather is good (lunch/dinner otherwise).

The stripes look good. They bear a strong resemblance to the factory striping on the Camaro
