When do most people do the first oil change on the V2?

When do most people do the first oil change on the V2?

It is your car and it is really entirely up to you, but most would recommend doing the first oil change between 500 and 2,000 miles. The sooner the better.

I did mine just under 3,000 miles oil & filter

Had mine changed at 1,000. Don't know that it helped, but figure it didn't hurt. Have 9,200 miles on the car now and the oil life monitor is down to 38%.

I was at the dealership last night (no problems, just the dealer giving me a few things they promised) and the service guy said they recommend around 7-7.5k.

I understand the rationale for changing the oil sooner, basically the engine is new so lots of metal shavings get dislodged. However, for those that have changed, if you did it yourself, how dirty was the oil? Any obvious shavings in there?

Thanks!

My engine oil, filter and diff. fluid were changed at 1000 miles. I am following the recommended intervals from there on.

I had a differential fluid change done @ 1,600 miles. Fluid was dark but @ correct level.

I will be following reg maint schedule from now on as well.

It seems to me that history regarding this subject is slowly changing. It used to be that you were advised to do your first oil change within 1,000 miles or so, maybe even within the first 500 miles. The last few new cars I've purchased have recommended that you wait the regular interval, whether this is 3,000 or 7,500 or whatever. I thought I read in the manual that the V's first oil change would need to happen whenever your display showed 0% oil life remaining. And since I can't remember what the actual mileage was that it was based on, I'm guessing it's 7,500 because I'm at 6,000 miles and I still have 20%-ish or so left.

I agree with you Tony. From what I've read about the GM oil life system, it apparently monitors oil life based on your driving habits and it is supposedly very accurate. According to what I read from a supposed GM engineer in the past, when it says '0' it is time to change the oil. The engineer said there were no benefits from changing early.

Now, engineers have been known to disagree, however, I'll follow what's stated in the manual because GM wants to keep the warranty repairs at a minimum.

I did mine at just over 5K, before I put it away for the winter. Dealer's paperwork said 7 quart change of Mobil 1. I checked it when I got home and it seemed to be high up on the dipstick. Checked the manual and it states capacity is 6 quarts. Should I be concerned that they overfilled it? I don't think they see too many V2's up here, so just wondering.

I had all fluids, (motor oil/filter, tranny, and differential), changed to Amsoil products at 1400 miles, just in case there was any break-in debris build-up. Cheap insurance IMO.

Uh yeah. They overfilled it. Seven quarts is for an oil change on the Northstar engine, not on the LSA.

Changed mine at ~3K diff and motor oil, diff was way dark and low, motor was discolored but nothing to be concerned with. After oil change to AMSoil I got better gas mileage by ~10%

All lubricants changed to Amsoil at 2500, changed engine oil again at 7500. Just preventative maintenance in my opinion.
