: motor swap

im looking to switch out a motor in a 95 sls it has a ld8 vin y, can i switch it with another engine or does it have to be the same, parts for this engine are no longer avalible

Your powertrain management system and sensors are the earlier OBD-I (OnBoard Diagnostics protocol -I), so I believe you have to stick with 1995 or maybe earlier. The engines and controls changed to OBD-II at the start of 1996 production.

ive noticed in 95 there are 2 different northstars the intakes are diferent and one has a 18mm crank bolt and one has a 14mm bolt

The only two engine are the LD8 and the L37. The only difference is the intake cam and 25 HP.
