Hello,

I am new to the forums and after looking around a bit I believe thie is the place to get a few questions answered for my 1997 Catera.

1. Where is the best place to get a "good" pair of replacement headlights. I would like to maybe go to a projection set or HID or if available a halo set like the bmw's?

2. Where is the best place to get a replacement rear LED brake light bar?

3. My blower motor for my AC/HEAT will not shut off unless I pull the the fuse (even with turning off the ignition) nor will it change speeds. Any ideas or diagrams the might lead me to the problem?

4. I saw a photo on the forums of a woven grill, is that available for the 97'???

Thank you for any answers you might have....I hope I get a chance to contribute back.

Runcy, I'm not sure whats going on in your dash. Sounds like a short, or the climate controls are dead. Weird how the fans work, when ignition is off?

It takes a few days for the guys here to respond. I'm sure most have moved on, or no longer have Cats, so they don't log in here anymore, not sure?

Give them a few days, and I'll see if I can look up on Alldata for ya. Been busy myself, so bear with me.

thank you for your response. I had a friend tell me he thought it might be some sort of solinoid(spelling) that controls the fan speed. but I have now idea of where to even begin to look.

For a 3rd trunk mounted brake light you might want to search eBay. I think i have one sitting in the garage i can sell you if u live anywhere near Indianapolis. And the woven grill you saw was probably from a European model. i don't believe there are any U.S. manufactures that make them. As far as headlights go the only place i've ever found to even sell them is ebay, there is a good thread on her about them, just do a search on headlights.

1.) The guy to ask is CateraMV6. Search his posts.

2.) Logan Diagnostics
http://www.ledfix.com/

4.) Nothing specifically for the Catera. Search Ebay/UK for Vauxhall or Opel Omega B. Remember, the 2000 - 2001 grilles will not fit your 1997. I found these:

CateraMV6 must be busy or he would have replied by now. HID lights are among his pet projects. This is one of his threads. Remember, he has a 2001 Sport which already came with HID headlights. This was an upgrade to Euro spec lights. Year 2000 - 2001 headlights don't fit the 1997 - 1999 models. Interference with the hood I think.

Sorry for the late response, been too busy lately...

As far as HIDs go here are your options...

1. PnP HID Kit, runs around 40-50$ but the results are poor, but if you keep the lights clean and you stick with 4300K you might be ok.
http://www.ddmtuning.com/products/Apexcone_Raptor_Brand_HID_Kit-102-85.html < HID Kits are 30$

2. You can opt out to a HID System which is impossible to find around here, but you can get them in Europe and pay 100$ shipping and they will still run you 300-400$

3. You can go out and find a pair of halogen PROJECTOR headlights, which were standard on 2000-2001 and generally a little bit easier to find even in junk yards...
Then go get a pair of projectors from eBay, either xenon or bixenon... I recommend Lexus RX units, or Infinity FX Bixenon units and mount them in place of the stock location.
Then simply paint the shrouds if you like, reinstall everything on your car.
TO do the conversion you will need:
2 Projectors ~50-150$
2 HID Bulbs ~50$
2 HID Ballasts ~30$
2 AMP Connectors ~15$.

^ This is the best option to go if you have a little bit of skills and imagination. I used simple materials to mount the projectors in my headlights and I can say it was the simplest upgrade for me.

I am running FX-R projectors with high power HID bulbs and boosted ballasts... My lights put out around 70$ more light then typical HID system... There are pictures I posted on here just look around.

Another option is to go with the aftermarket units but form my understanding they have a crappy projectors so they wont be much of an upgrade...

so, if I gather what you are saying, you would not recommend purchasing a set of projector style off of ebay then adding the xenon bukbs with a ballast? That is what I was kinda looking at doing.

Well those aftermarket lights on ebay go for something like 350$ and 50-80$ shiping correct?

Why not just buy the proper equipment and some used lights from Europe and do it right... < Thats what I would do.

The other thing you can attempt to do is perhaps to locate a junk yard that has a 2000-2001 SPORT with HIDS and buy those, at least for 200-300 you will be getting all the parts, bulbs, ballasts, etc.

The ebay stuff seems cheap to me, but the decision is in your hands.

I also find it that the stock lights have a better output then the eBay ones...
OEMs have passed numerous engineering tests... whereas the ebay ones are probably made by some kid in some Chinese warehouse...

I was under the impression that the new catera's 99' thru the 2001 or 2002's headlights would not fir the 97' or 98' models?

97-99 and 00-01 are the way it is. The assembly is the same but the lens will not fit because it curves differently with the sheet-metal. The most obvious difference is at the low corners where it would run along the grille.

97-99 fit and 00-01 are different. the lens on the assembly is different to form with the changed grille in the face lift models, while the assembly minus the lens is the same. But the lens for our pre face-lifts will not work right on a projector housing for the sole reason that it has waves to angle the light.

Thats a good point you bring up, the fact that the shape is different will cause problems for those trying to upgrade to the 00-01 lights... I see many in Europe upgrading to the projector style but I never looked into what was involved...

In that case if there are after market lights for the 97-99 you should go with those as they will be the best option.

In europe they had a projector style for the PRE 99s... they had HIDs as well...

And you're absolutely right. 97-99 are different from 00-01.
As for the grill, go to ebay.co.uk and search Omega B grill/grille. I got a black one from there
