All,
Strange one this. I intended to replace the fuel filter on the standard Q Jet carb on my 77 deVille and found that I have the wrong one.
It's the type that slides in behind the large nut on the carb.

It seems I have the right bore - 3/4 inch bore - but the wrong length. The one I have is Purolator part number F10158, with another number 456876 on the packet.
Howwever it seems to be twice as long as I need. The repalcement is 2 inches long and I need it to be 1 inch long. Not sure what teh replacement part number is to order a new one and can't find out!
Hopefully someone here knows.

best regards & thanks, Nick

1977 FSM states AC Type GF 441 or equivalent.

Does this mean you're taking the '77 with you wherever you're going?

The later qjets used a longer filter, they probably gave you one for a later model.

Guys,

I'm not so sure this is the one. This looks like a bot on external filter to me, not one that sits inside the Q Jet body

On the other hand this looks more like it! GF427 or Fram FFCG11. 12 bucks plus shipping kind of spendy for a inch high fuel filter!!

Good old Summit - 3 in stock on their ebay store - 2 bucks each! I wonder if they have the oil level indicator sender for my 94 Fleetwood (see other post) also.

I've never seen one in the qjet that looks like that chrome 441 on the first link. If you click on the 470 on that same page it should look like that (same as the second link) or a stone, almost like a fish tank filter.

Matt,
Me neither. I've got the long 2 inch one as in the first pic on the second link and need the short one (1 inch) as in the second article on the second link - and the pic at the top of the page in the second link.

Summit have them for 2 bucks so I ordered 3, 2 for the other boys here in Ireland. Anybody else been needing them recently?

regards, Nick
(PS - what's the 'angry' bit??)

A little off the topic but when I brought my '87 in for a tune up once they didn't know where to find the fuel filter. rofl

It's just an old nick name from the gym. I hate making up names for forums and it was the first thing that came to mind. I've got a knack for flying off the handle easily, usually over nothing, probably explains the high blood pressure.

It sounds to me that you have the wrong carb or the wrong body mounted on your base plate. The Chevy carbs have bodies similar to the Cadillac. The Chevy uses the shorter fuel filter. The other cousins have fuel inlets at the front center of the carb body. The Cadillacs and Chevy have the fuel filter at the right front, but the bodies have some differences. The Cadillac has a deeper recess for the filter. Check the number of your carb body. It should be located on the left rear support wing. You'll need a mirror to see it.
