Hey,

If I am doing the stud kit replacement, do I need the entire Felpro 189 dollar kit from rockauto or do I just need two hg at 20 bucks each?

Call Rock Auto and find out if the FelPro kits include new head bolts because, although they are specified on an insert install, you won't need them.

Do I use all of the parts that are in the felpro kit other then the bolts?

I have always used Felpro, so that is what I used for my 97 HG project; I remember buying the HG kit, and what I think they still call the conversion kit - basically all the seals and gasket for the engine that are not included in the HG kit. Both kits are quire comprehensive - you really will find everything you need, and also some things that you may not need. No bolts were included - they came separately and in sets of ten, as in enough for one side.

I am going to use Jake's stud kit. Do you need to replace any gaskets other then the HG typically? I haven't found a really good write-up of doing the replacement.

bigds01,

I'm using Jake's stud kit on my STS, and I'm using the Fel-Pro conversion kit per Jake's advice.

Part number HS26150PT2 from Rock Auto. Google "Rock auto discount code" for a code you can put in at checkout time for a 5% discount.

You will probably want the valve cover gaskets (with O rings), the grommets for the bolts on the valve cover, and the seal for the camshaft where it goes to the waterpump drive pulley. Usually the gaskets will absorb oil, expand, and when you want to reinstall them they will be too big for the valve covers.

The intake gaskets are reusable and so is the timing cover gasket.

Also I see you have a 94. You may want to order the gaskets pictured here:

Here's how they came out on my 94:

They are GM part #'s 12562046 and 12562047... I don't know which is which. But you would only really need the top 2 which is most likely 12562047.

So those gaskets weren't in the felpro kit?

When you order the head and conversion sets, ALL of the gaskets are in one kit or the other - ALL of them

Actually, come to think of it. I think they were in the fel-pro kit.
