Don't bother to read this if you never make mistakes or do dumb things when you are in a hurry.

When I brought the SRX home one of the first things I checked was whether or not I could open the hatch in my garage without hitting the door or the cement lintel for the door. The answer is nope can't do it. If I do, the door would hit the bottom of the garage door and the edge of the concrete lintel at about the same time.

Since then I have opened the door a couple of times in the garage and always threw a towel in between the SRX rear hatch and my garage hazards. I just saw another SRX with scratches that makes me believe he/she learned this the hard way.

To date, no problems. But, I will probably put some some Llumar film in the exposed area because this is one of those things that you just know will happen sooner or later and I don't want unwanted designs carved into my Diamond White finish.

I suppose I could adjust the garage door to not open all the way and the cargo door would then bottom out on the rubber garage door seal but then that would be the easy way wouldn't it.

I have the same garage problem. I try to remember to gently open the door, but sometimes circumstances are such that I forget. I also have those scratches.

Wow, there are some low garage doors out there.

Good luck!

My garage door opening measures 6' 11". I have owned 9 homes and all but one of them looked to be the same height. The exception was 9'. I would venture to say my doors are of average height and that many millions of doors re the same.

Now I'm not picking on the SRX (for once). All I was pointing out is those of us with the first time adventure of a vertically opening tailgate need to watch out.

Maybe we are lucky, but ours clears by about two inches. Another reason not to buy an Escalade or a Denali.....

Have any of you actually operated your garage doors with the liftgate up? My wife has already closed our garage door with the SRX's liftgate up, and we now have a nice 4 inch scratch on the liftgate near the license plate. She did this 3 times with the minivan that preceded the SRX too. :banghead:

Changing cars again won't solve the problem. You'll need to try exchanging something else to solve that problem.
