So I'm putting my 95 Deville 4.9L back together after the power steering bracket broke on me. But my car is missing the belt routing diagram under the hood. Anyone have access to or point me to the belt routing?

That doesn't look right. HUF 11-05-09, 07:58 PM So you're supposed to run the waterpump backwards to bypass the compressor? That doesn't look right. I believe the red line goes over the water pump pulley. Ranger 11-05-09, 09:49 PM No it's right. Instead of the belt going down (as shown) and around the compressor, it follows the red line. Not an awful lot of contact with the water pump pulley though. It would be turning the pump backwards though. That can't be good. Not sure who came up with that idea. steelybill 11-06-09, 02:10 AM The local auto parts places have a bracket and pulley combo to use in place of the AC compressor, but I've only seen one for a Chevy. Maybe there is one for Caddys also ? kdcing 11-06-09, 08:54 PM Another member bypassed the AC compressor w/ a 62" belt.....and it went over the water pump pulley, not under it. If the belt is routed under the pulley, not only would the water pump be driven backwards, but the "toothed" side of the belt would be on the flat pulley of the water pump. In any case, more info can be found here: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/attachments/ht4100-4-1-4-5-4/26877-94-4-9-bypass-siezed-c-4.9-belt-path.jpg http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/ht4100-4-1-4-5-4/96519-94-4-9-bypass-siezed-c.html Ranger 11-08-09, 09:10 PM That makes more sense. I'm going to delete my post. Damn, I can't, I'm not a mod here. Hopefully a mod in this section will do it for me. Sevillian273 11-09-09, 04:01 AM Where is the smog pump in these pictures? Did they become electric in '91? Or do i need to get my eyes checked? drewsdeville 11-09-09, 09:07 AM The 4.9 never had a smog pump. It was eliminated in '91. The '90 4.5 was the last 4.X to have an air pump. Sevillian273 11-09-09, 09:10 AM The 4.9 never had a smog pump. It was eliminated in '91. The '90 4.5 was the last 4.X to have an air pump. No sh*t?? So what was used to put air into the cat then? drewsdeville 11-09-09, 12:24 PM Nothing. The 4.9 was efficient enough without it. The 4.9 cat has no port for air injection. Doesn't hurt my feelings to get rid of them noisy air pumps and messy diverter valve piping. Sevillian273 11-09-09, 12:29 PM Doesn't hurt my feelings to get rid of them noisy air pumps and messy diverter valve piping. :yeah: Now I'm wondering if I can use a 4.9L belt to delete my smog pump...:lildevil: That's the only component left... drewsdeville 11-09-09, 02:27 PM I don't see why not. The only thing you will have to be careful about is the void above the AC compressor. The AC compressor used the air pump as a mounting point. One bolt hold both together. To solve this on the 4.9, GM used a short bar as a brace that bolts to the AC compressor and a bracket under the PS pump. That should be all you need from any 4.9 at your local junkyard. All you'd need is a 4.9 air box cover and no one would know the difference! Sevillian273 11-09-09, 02:50 PM The AC compressor used the air pump as a mounting point. One bolt hold both together. Crap. :annoyed: So I would need that bar and the bracket under the PS pump... I wonder if my PS pump is the same as a 4.9 so as to accommodate that bracket... Lol I knew it was too easy to be true! | |
