View Full Version : About to buy a 07 EXT- GAS ? JONNYLAXD 11-05-09, 10:07 AM Hey guys, im about to pull the trigger next week on an ext.. I currently have a tahoe. 5.3l and my gas mileage is pretty bad already..
Now i have seen some things on forums of people talking about adding a corsa exhaust- and some sort of chip to get better gas mileage... What are they talking about?? Do these things really work? Please let me know.. And how much do they run? Thanks My 07 Regular Lade (factory 18s) gets much better gas mileage than I got in my 2001 Tahoe LT 5.3 (factory 16s) on the highway (20% better).
I was shocked. I was lucky to hit 17.5 MPG highway with the 4WD Tahoe (in 2WD of course). I can regularly get 20.6 MPG highway with the AWD Lade. Around town, mileage is about the same for both. For me, having full time AWD AND 118 HP more than my old 5.3 PLUS better mileage sounds like a lie. Skeptics, I beat you to the punch. The 6.2 is a great engine. DRIPPED 11-05-09, 02:08 PM I get 17.7 in my ext factory 18s 07'....but i tend to speed too lol I drive pretty conservatively once I am rolling on the highway, like 74 MPH. I drove the Tahoe and drive Lade similarly. i had 07 tahoe before i had 07 escalade.gas mileage is pretty much same.I was getting like 16mpg on tahoe mostly highway driving. You can probably will get 15 mpg or so on escalade. Not much difference at all.Escalade has much more power and drives better around corners.Im sure you are going to like the escalade much better. i get about 16 avg mixed city and highway on factory 22s. i have a superchip on mileage xs too. If gas is a problem for you, don't get it. It will be worse than your Tahoe, I can guarantee it. I average 11MPG in the city. And no, intake, exhaust, etc won't give you 20MPG. My cousin gets about 10-12 mpg around town with his 5.3 Avalanche, the truck works hard with that small engine, most of our EXT customers get at least that mileage. If gas is a problem for you, don't get it. It will be worse than your Tahoe, I can guarantee it.
No you can't.
I have had both, same driver, same routes, same driving conditions. My Lade MPG beats my Tahoe 5.3 on the highway hands down. Maybe I have an anomoly Lade, but point is, others on here, including long timers like HCVONE, can also regularly hit 20-21 MPG on the highway. The 5.3 does have to work hard to move the mass. Probably part of the same reasons why a Navigator, with far less power, gets worse highway mileage than a lade too. I can't believe that a Tahoe 5.3 versus an EXT would yield much different results, which is what the OP is comparing, right OP?
I am not arguing with you on City driving - both suck. I honestly don't know which one sucks more, the 5.3 or 6.2. When I meticulously track mileage, I do it on long trips - always done it that way. When I track city, it's no fun.
Also a note for disclosure: In both the Tahoe and the Lade, 3rd row seats removed, K&N drop-ins, smallest OEM wheels/tires, premium gas, Superchips/Preditor, driven conservatively. In other words, in both I tried to maximize MPG. JONNYLAXD 11-06-09, 12:53 PM Thanks for the responses guys... I am most likely trading in the tahoe soon to get an ext.. so the chips are BS? im not too concerned about gas mileage I have always had SUV's but i was just trying to maximize the best mileage.. K9Caddy 11-06-09, 03:11 PM If you're trying to gain a few ponies, try the Predator, otherwise save the money for extra gas. mdadgar 11-06-09, 04:26 PM Maybe I have an anomoly Lade, but point is, others on here, including long timers like HCVONE, can also regularly hit 20-21 MPG on the highway.
I don't know how. Mine never breaks 18mpg on the freeway and I generally keep the cruise locked at 70mph.
I get 10.5 around town.
I get 6.7 - 7.5 towing my 8000 lb trailer depending on speed (60-65mph range).
Ask me what I'd give to have GM's currently-shelved 4.5L Duramax Diesel in my Escalade.

My buddy has a '03 Tahoe with 200,000K on it, and that get's better mileage than my Escalade with 60,000K on it in the city. I agree with you on the highway mileage, though. 6.2L does beat the 5.3L (non-afm that is). The 5.3L is a high revving engine, that is what kills the mileage. I don't know how. Mine never breaks 18mpg on the freeway and I generally keep the cruise locked at 70mph.

Ford is supposed to come out with their 4.4L diesel engine in 2010. Put that in the Navigator, and I'll buy it. Punmax,
I think we are agreeing. :) Ford is supposed to come out with their 4.4L diesel engine in 2010. Put that in the Navigator, and I'll buy it.
If it is anything like ford's other attemps at building a Diesel you can have it. mdadgar 11-07-09, 04:43 PM If it is anything like ford's other attemps at building a Diesel you can have it.
The 6.0 was a disaster, but the 7.3 and 6.4 are just fine. I'd prefer a DMax, though.
Transmissions are another story, but then GM doesn't have a stellar record in this area either ...

Yes, they did mess up some of their engines, but take a look at Ford's new 6.7L Power Stroke. JohnH4260 11-07-09, 07:58 PM 2009 Escalade ESV Platinum
