I own an 04 SRX AWD, 4.6 V8, Ultraview, silver smoke, nuetral interior, luxury utility pkg, 3rd row, wood kit, chrome wheels, 235 60 18 tires all around.

I have been patiently waiting for aftermarket performance accessories for the SRX for almost a year. But nobody seems to carry a selection of products. From what I have heard there should be some things showing up at SEMA this year.

I made a couple of mods to my SRX that made a big difference and showed how air starved the stock air intake system is on the 4.6.

I purchased a K&N filter charger #33-2059 5.875" x 10" panel filter, cut out an 1/8" PVC plate the size and shape of the existing stock filter so it would fit the airbox, then slit the rubber side wall of the K&N filter and trimmed a small V section out of one corner so the filter would fit in the airbox, and reglued the side wall to the filter using Permatex black hi temp silicone after carefully degreasing the black rubber parts of the filter. Then I glued the K&N filter into the PVC plate using Permatex silicone, added 1/8" x 3/8" foam gaskets on each side of the plate, let it sit over night and installed it in the airbox after trimming off one of the air box baffles.

The air box gets it's air from an area between the headlight and turn signal, with no access to air from the grill or bumper external openings, except from a small hole in the splash pan below the bumper. I opened up this hole to 2 1/2" diameter.

I was pretty amazed at the low end punch improvement, and general performance increase, just from these mods.

Now all I need are bigger brakes, Corsa exhaust, and 400 hp.

I really love my SRX, it is a great ride. Although an SRX V with a six speed manual would be nice.

Think that would also work with the V6 in similar fashion???

Color me impressed!!! :worship:

You should create and market the mod as a kit! I know if you had a V6 version I'd probably buy it.

Send me an email if you're interested in patenting and manufacturing it! johncaddy2004@yahoo.com

Did you take pics? I'd love to see what you came up with

I would think an arrangment like this would work fine on the V6.

I have had this K&N filter in the SRX for about 3 months with out any major problems. A couple of times when I was doing alot of drag race starts from stoplights I was able to exceed the airflow enough to trip up the mass flow sensor and light the check engine light. But it always reset and went back to smooth running. This arrangement allows me to unscrew the two airbox screws and flip in the stock filter when I go back to the dealer for warranty work. Little do they know.

Attached picture is of the K&N filter mod shown on the left, stock filter on the right.

Not really interested in producing this. If your a little handy with some tools this is a neat way to get some extra performance.

Sorry Gordon I got it. Looks very nice, did you cut the corner of the filter?
