I've heard legends they made Cadillac Pick Ups since the near beginning. I've seen a picture of a 1955 (or so) Cadillac Pick Up and I think I've seen a version of mine as a Pick Up (A 1964 Cadillac)

Did these really exist as stock vehicles or were they modified?

Cadillac never produced any factory pickups, although in the mid-70s, one of the big coachbuilders did a number of El Camino-like creations, usually based off a Coupe de Ville, although I've seen one or two Eldorados done this way. I believe they were called the Mirage.

In the mid 70's the coach-builders also had the Cadillac Caribou, which also looked like a Cadillac Coupe Camino.

Most El Camino type conversions were done for funeral homes as flower cars, in other words, to carry flowers to the grave site. Most coach builders that did hearses did flower cars.

Examples. I love pickups and some of these totally rock.

I see a couple of former flower cars on the road every so often. I will have to try to snap a pic next time I see one.

As an aside, up here in NH, you don't see flower cars as part of a funeral very often, whereas when I was growing up in metro NY, you saw them all the time. I also found this link (http://www.specialtyhearse.com/flower_car.htm), which offers a conversion on a 1997-2005 DeVille for about $20K before options. It just doesn't seem as impressive IMHO.

If you want sweet Caddy pickup action, you need to rent "Viva Knievel!" from 1977. There are a couple in the movie. Apparently, Knievel always bought pickup Caddies. It's a horrible movie, of course. Check out the cast, though. Lauren Hutton looks smokin'...

Let's not confuse pickups with flower cars!
