Hey, new to these forums. It looks very nice, have been reading some threads!

But, anyhow, on topic, I am about to purchase either a 1969 or 1970 cadillac DeVille. I cannot decide which one to choose, so hopefully you all would help!

My situation is like this: I received a Pilot passed on from my step-mother, and now the title is under my name. My parents said I could do anything with it, and since I am in love with old cars, preferably cadillacs, I have decided to purchase one.

I was searching Craigslist and found a 1970 Cadillac Deville Sedan. I was pretty bought on this, considering it had rims attached, the low price, and only 50k miles. I have been e-mailing this guy, but he rarely ever messages back. The only real accessories are the 22" rims he has on it. It had bright red interior, so I knew that wouldn't fly, so I was planning on changing that. Also, there isn't a CD player in this, whatsoever. This was all for $7,000. No pictures for this one, because he took down the craiglist ad. But exterior was shiny beige color, and interior was bright red.

The second choice is a 1969 Cadillac Coupe Deville I came across today. It is a convertible, so I knew I would like it after I saw that convertible El Dorado I was trying to get a few months back. It already has a sound system in it. I was wondering though, does a Coupe Deville have sufficient space in the backseat for comfort? The color code on this is fine, although I was planning on going black, anyhow. He had rims on it, but said he put the stock wheels back on it. He said he put a new engine in it, and only 2,000 miles were on the new engine. This is all for $8,000.

Sorry for such a long post, just trying to stay as detailed as possible!

Thanks!

As an owner of a 1964 Cadillac Coupe Deville (Those cars were monsters at 18 1/2 feet long and this was before their growth spurt that lasted until the early 1970s) I can tell you with authority leg room and comfort will not be an issue. The issue with that (472 or 500) engine will be fuel economy. At a 429 my car only gets 10 miles per gallon in the city. You'll probably get 7 or 8 in the city.
I'm not a fan of the Calais (The generation that came after my car) because they have those fake tail fins, not the real ones like my car has. Regardless if you get rid of those rims it'll be a nice car. (Except for those aftermarket accessories like the CD player).

First off, welcome! 1969 and 1970 are virtually identical save for some trim details. Sedans, coupes, and convertibles all ride on the same 130" wheelbase and all are 225" long. There are few cars on the road today that can match these cars for interior room. The prices of the cars you are looking at seem rather high. A good solid coupe or sedan shouldn't cost more than about $5K, especially if you're planning on modding it out, so you really don't need a perfect show car. Be aware that these cars rust, especially around the backlight, the lower front fenders and rocker panels, and the trunk/rear wheel wells. The engines and transmissions are near indestructible.

Best of luck with your search!

Thanks a lot for the responses! Since you both stated that the space is the same for all of these models, then I'll stick to getting the convertible and take the Sedan out of the picture. Why care for two extra doors when you can put the top down!? Haha, well thanks a lot! I will most likely become an active member of this forum since of my soon-to-be new caddy, so I'll see all of you around!

Thanks again!
